2 homes - do we register for 2 of everything?

My fiance and I are living in 2 homes.  He has 2 kids and our "main" home is close to them.  However, we work about 1 hour away (which is at least a 2 hour commute in rush hour) so we also have an apartment close to work.  We spend out time split between the two.  So here's the question:  we really would like things like knives, pots, pans, etc... should we register for two of everything so we can set up each place equally as  nice? We aren't registering for a lot, so I think it would give people more options if I do this, but I don't want to seem greedy.  What do you think?

Maybe a couple of items you could register for two of, but if you did two of everything I would think that would like gift grabby.

  • We will definitely be in 2 places for at least the next 10 years.  We entertain more on the weekend place, but we do cook a lot in the city since we are here Mon-Fri.  I also hope to entertain a little more (but casually) in the city as we get settled in, meet more people, etc.  Thanks for the advice!
  • I wouldn't necessarily register for 2 of everything. For example, I would choose a nicer everyday dinnerware set for the place that you spend the most time in and a less expensive set for your other home. Nice thick cotton towels for where you spend the most time, more reasonably priced ones for the other and so on.

  • A registry is a wish list. Guests check it so they can buy something you want. If you want doubles of certain things, I don't see anything wrong with registering for them. Just make sure you keep a wide range in price points.

  • I think as long as it's not that you're just checking "2" for each item, you could register for 2 sets of things, just not exact duplicates, different colors or what not. In the end, people will buy what they want and you could always explain you registered for extra thinngs because you plan on using your completion discount after the wedding.

  • I agree with jeanna85 . took the words right out ofmy mouth.
  • as a guest looking at a registry, I wouldn't think twice about you registering for two of everything. it's none of my business what you use it for. it's not like you're asking ME to buy two of everything. I mean, I would probably notice two crockpots, but I wouldn't care about the number of towels, flatware, sheets, etc. just register for whatever YOU need. that's really the whole point...
