What else I am suppose to register for?

My bridal show is next weekend, and I have had a few people comment that my registry is really short (we have 110 items on our list), they also comment that our registry had a lot of expensive items (even though over half of the items were under $50). My mother suggested for registering for a whole list of things to add (towels, sheets, ect.) but as my fiancé and I have been living together for 4 years we don't really need these things. I don't want to just register for things for the same of registering for them, and I think the whole idea of just registering for things so I can return them and cash in is tacky. I registered for basic things we NEED, so I don't know what I am suppose to do to appease people. Any suggestions?

  • Is there anything you guys are really into that you can make a specialty registry for? Camping, etc. I read something on the TK about somebody doing that once

  • When you say half the items are under $50, is the item truly something that would be a gift, or really just an item?  What I mean is, did you register for wine glasses that cost $45 each?  If you registered for 12 $45 wine glasses, it really isn't 12 gifts - it's 6 at most.  So in reality, you have 6 $90 gifts.  No one is going to buy you a single wine glass as a shower gift - they will want to buy you at least a pair, and more likely, 4 or 6 glasses.
  • 110 seems like more than enough for a traditional registry, but if you really feel pressured to add more, there's always the offbeat stuff such as new luggage, garden tools, etc etc.  There are some great articles on TK about this kind of thing.

  • no we registered for glassware (wine, champagne, pilsner, rocks, high-ball) @ $30-35 for a set of 4 of them.

Other than electronics (blenders, food processors ect.), and a few nice "gift items" (platters, vases ect.) we didn't regiser for a singular (1) item that is over $50.
  • So you have about 100 items under $50 on your registry leading up to your shower? Even for a shower with 30 guests, that's 3 choices per person. They shouldn't complain. If it's the handful of expensive things, maybe remove them until the shower and add them afterwards, if you're getting flak and are rattled by it.

Do double-check that you still have most things available on your registry - that a generous aunt didn't buy you 30 gifts or something. I just checked my cousin's registry, for a wedding still 3 months away. She has only about 6 things left, none in my price range.
  • I seriously don't think you can have too many sheets and towels.  What about new, higher thread count sheets or thicker, more luxurious towels?  Do you have enough if you have a houseful of overnight guests?
