Between the sheets--Help me out

Our #1 registry area is bedding. We're registered at C&B, Macy's, and Amazon. What bedding did you register for? Would you recommend what you got?

Re: Between the sheets--Help me out

  • With Amazon, you can register for anything on their site. You can also add items from other websites to their universal registry. When someone clicks on those items, they are redirected to the site. The downside is that I have heard that those items don't always get marked as purchased, so you may get duplicates.

    Thanks for the recommendations!
  • We got eucalyptus sheets from BB&B and they are amazing.

Also, while on our HM, we came across a store called Cariloha that sells products made of bamboo.  Their sheets are so incredibly soft.  We didn't buy any while there, but we plan on ordering a set in the near future.

  • We got our duvet and shams at C&B, but their sheets are awful. Ours are from BBB and they are 700 count. I won't do less than 600. I'm not particular about brand, but anything over 600 count will run you at least $100 for a flat and fitted sheet and two pillowcases.
  • We got Royal Velvet sheets from BBB and have been happy with them for 1+ year.  We just picked them out by going to the store and touching all the samples, so that's what I would recommend.

We got a pillowtop mattress pad from Macy's (their own brand) that I need to return, because it ripped when I washed it.  I have had good experiences with Macy's returns, though, so hopefully it will go smoothly.
  • Another BB&B person. Prima Sateen 525 threadcount sheets I think they're called. Had the twin one in college, and queen sized now. I love them so much. For BB&B, at least, you can walk around and feel samples of most of their sheets. I highly recomend doing so if you get the chance, at least if you're picky about sheets like I am.

  • I'm personally not a fan of eucalyptus sheets.  They feel sort of slick to me and that kind of weirds me out.  I LOVE PB's sheets and LOVE macy's hotel collection.  Hotel collection is really top of the line, and they are pricey but completely worth it.  I actually think their 600 TC sets feel the nicest, but it's a personal preference.

As for other aspects of bedding, I ditto PB.  Gorgeous duvets, comforters, quilts, etc. Very high quality and truly a good price for the quality you are getting.

[QUOTE]Don't go for less than 600 thread count.  The higher the thread count, the softer the sheet.

I always debate this I have to say. Feeling all the sheets at BB&B (like I said above) I found my 525-count sheets to feel softer than the 700+ sheets from another line. It's about what each person likes as far as feel. There have actually been studies done about how people can't feel a clear difference in thread count over a certain point/people fudge thread counts in a number of ways. People can feel free to debate me on that, but what I've always found

    <p><a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.linenplace.com/product_guide/truth_about_thread_count.html">http://www.linenplace.com/product_guide/truth_about_thread_count.html</a>
"In a quality product, the incremental comfort value of thread counts over 300 is very little. A 300 thread count can feel far superior to a 1000 thread count. Thread count has become a simple metric used by marketing people to capture interest and impress with high numbers. The problem with mass produced high thread count sheets is that to keep the price down, important elements of quality must be sacrificed, meaning in the end the customer gets a product with an impressive thread count but that probably feels no better (or even worse) than something with a lower thread count."</p>

  • I have heard that too-- That over, say, 400 thread count, they have to use multi-threads to get to that number and that won't necessarily feel as good to the skin.
  • Yep I agree - I actually usually dislike things over 500 thread count because it starts to feel rough to me.  Macy's 600 TC is as high as I will go and those do feel the best to me - I've never understood why because most 600 TC sheets I hate.  I think the weave is actually more important.  Percale sheets are probably the softest, but they have lost popularity because they aren't wrinkle resistant like sateen sheets are.  PB sells 300 TC percale sheets that feel incredible, and they are inexpensive.  That's what FI and I use in the guest room (since we only have to wash & iron them when people spend the night), and people rave about them.

  • Any set of organic sheets that I have purchased have been wonderful!  I registered for the ones at BBB, sorry, I forget the brand name.  I have also gotten organic sheets from Target that I like and the Fieldcrest brand that Target sells.

My bedding came from BBB, but that was the only store that had a comforter set that my H and I agreed on!  We searched for a long time to find a bedding set we both liked.  I used to work in the bedding department of Linens N Things and I always loved the Croscill sets, the comforters were thick, heavy, and warm.  I also had a Nautica set that I loved for many years.
