My FI and I have lived together since 2008 when we moved to Alaska together. We will not be living here forever (hopefully, we will be gone by 2012) and are getting married in our hometown of New York in December 2011. All of our friends and family know we have been living together since our move and probably assume we have the majority of the household necessities but we really don't. It's too expensive to waste our time and money to bring all of our acquired household items with us when we move and will essentially be starting all over.
My question is, will people find it rude for us to register for plates, cookware and other household items they assume we already have? Like I said, we aren't getting married until December but I will be home in August and my family wants to do my bridal shower then, which makes me feel like we should get this figured out soon. As a guest, I wouldn't find it rude and would probably assume the couple only has what they need, whether second-hand of the very basic quality for the sake of saving money. Will my guests assume the same thing?
