Registering

Okay, I'm trying to figure out the best place to register.  I don't want to go traditional with the fancy China and I certain don't want to put things on my registry that I know that I'm not going to use.  I was thinking Target or Bed Bath and Beyond for my day to day stuff, but my fiancee and I just purchased a house that we now need to furnish, I was thinking Pottery Barn.  Anyone have any other good ideas?  I'm open!

Re: Registering

  • I did both Target and Bed Bath and Beyond. I'm still four months away from my wedding, so I can't tell you what they're like once you've received gifts, but so far I really like Bed Bath and Beyond, I like that your registry counts as a receipt, so you don't have to rely on gifts giving you either a gift receipt or another proof of purchase if for some reason you need to return an item.

However, I am extremely disappointed in Target's registry. So much so that I am pretty sure I am going to delete it. They seem to have a much greater revolving stock, so many items I wanted are constantly being discontinued, I also registered in the store and when I look up my registry online 75% of my items are shown without a picture and listed as sold in store only. Sometimes the names of the items are also hard to decipher (like reading a receipt and trying to match up what's listed to what you actually purchased). There were two items I honestly didn't know what they were, so I just deleted them off of it already.
  • Pottery Barn has really REALLY affordable everyday china, in my opinion.

  • I registered at Target and Crate and Barrel...I just did the Target one and I love Target, but I am nervous about the bad registry reviews all over this site
  • If you are looking to get furniture.....raymour and flanigan has a bridal registry program as well...visit their website...good luck

  • We got our everyday Stoneware from C&B and we LOVE it. Just a fair warning, though, 6 months later it was discontinued so we had to make sure and purchase anything we could ever want, so that may be a turn-off. As far as their functionality goes, though, they're amazing.
Maybe consider Fiestaware... I hear a lot of great things about it, and if we could do it over again, that may be the only thing we would have chosen over our current stuff, just because it has been around forever.
  • We double-registered for a lot of items between Target and BBB, because a lot of my family is closer to a Target than a BBB, but in case Target discontinues things before the wedding, they are still available at BBB.

The one nice thing about Target is their smart phone app.  So, when you happen to be in the store and see something you like, you can just scan it from your phone instead of having to go get a gun and all that.

We also did Menards for a lot of our house needs.  We bought a house a year and a half ago, but are constantly finding out we don't have the tools we need to manage the projects the house throws at us.  So, the Menards registry is a lot of tools, lighting fixtures, etc that we will definitely need sooner than later.
  • I HATE Target registeries for multiple reasons, so I'm biased..

    William Sonoma
    BBB (great return policy)
    Macys
Crate and Barrel ( I wish we had had one close to us.. I drool over everything in that store) is great for nice quality stuff that isn't ornate china.
    Pottery Barn

    Those would be my suggestions
