Want to register for "everyday" silverware

Where would you ladies suggest registering for everyday silverware?  I have everything for fancy occasions, but we would like something decent so we have a matching set to use on regular days.

We don't want our guests to break the bank, either, so I'm looking for something relatively affordable.  We were looking to register at Crate & Barrel, BBB & Target.  Any suggestions?

Go to the store and actually handle the flatware, see what fits in your hands well and is heavy feeling.  We registered for Henckels "Angelico," which is pretty widely available.
  • We registered for an Onieda  set from BB&B.  I think it was about $100 for a service of 8.

  • We got ours from BB&B.  I think service for 12 was like $150, plus maybe another $40 for the serving pieces?

We registered for the Scoop flatware from C&B. It's a 5-serving set for $140 and we registered for 3 of them. C&B had a ton of options, so I'd suggest going to look at them so you get a feel for their weight and what will work best for you.

CB has a lot of nice options.  BBB has everything that you can find at a normal dept store - some options are good, some aren't.  Just make sure that you register for a set that's 18/10.  BBB carries a lot of 18/0.  I don't think CB carries any 18/0, but it's worth checking before you register.

  • We registered for Nicole Miller "Green Tea" at BBB. It's $100 for service for 8, and they throw in the serving pieces. It's not expensive, but it feels heavier and better in my hand than most of the more expensive sets.

  • We registered for the large Oneida Dorchester set (service for 12, plus serving pieces for $199).

Whatever you get, definitely go for 18/10 stainless steel.
  • Definitely go for the 18/10.  We went with Oneida "Juilliard" at Bed Bath and Beyond, and plan to use it for both casual and formal occaisions.

  • We got a set from C&B, "Hazel", and it is awesome.  I agree with PPs though, that's something you have to go and touch/feel yourself.  I'd go with C&B first, then BB&B if you didn't like anything at C&B, and I wouldn't register for something like that from Target.

  • Like PP's said, go to the store and handle the flatware yourself.  I usually do what I call "the spoon torture test".  I hold onto a spoon and with my thumb I press down and see if it bends.  We registered for Stanton Satin at C&B.  We're happy with it.
