First Dress Shopping Appointment....

I have my first dress shopping appointment on Friday at Mockingbird Bridal @ 11AM.  I am really excited and looking forward to it even though it is directly after a much needed doctors appointment.

Are there any tips or things to keep in mind that you ladies can share so I don't stress way out considering my mom and FMIL will be in tow?

TIA!!!

Don't feel pressured.  Make a sound decision.

If you buy a dress today, quit looking! It will drive you crazy.

Try on dresses that you think you'd hate.  95% of the time, you go with a dress that was NOTHING like the one you thought you'd buy.

Make it FUN!  Dress shopping is meant to be.  :)

    How exciting, good luck!

-Listen to their opinions but don't let it get in the way of how you feel in a dress. My mom is very persuasive and a couple dresses that I tried on I wasn't really feeling but when I walked out she would just go on and on about how great it looked and how beautiful it was, etc. And hearing all that made me second guess myself a lot. So listen to suggestions but don't let them overpower how YOU feel in the dress.

-Wear underwear that covers your bum up! (Unless you don't care if people see it) You can't really be modest when trying on dresses but you can cover that part up! Oh and a strapless bra.

-Let your mom and FMIL pick a couple dresses that they like that you might not. It might surprise you what you thought you didn't like and end up loving.

I think that's all I have! GOOD LUCK!

The advice so far is great.  Thank you ladies so much....But this brings me to another question.  I have been on a weight losing fight for the last few months.  My original goal was about 60 pounds.  So far I have drappoed 20 so I still have a bit to go.  When I order should i order a size or to smaller.  I have heard they can only take a dress in so much before it doesn't look like your dress anymore.

BrookeAnne:  My mom is very persuasive as well...She also likes to remind me when I am looking at dresses that "Now remember you are not as small as that model so it won't look like that on you."

I actually thought of going alone to go shopping for my dress and suprise everyone but being the only girl my parents have I don't have the heart to not include my mom.

I am so full of questions!

    Thanks again ladies!

This is my advice on the bigger/smaller dress:  You can ALWAYS take a dress in, but letting it out doesn't always work.  That's a question for your consultant though, let her measure you and figure out the best option.

Something may happen where you don't lose your ideal weight, and then you have a dress that's too small... it's always better to be safe than sorry.

Another good one is to let your consultant pull a few dresses for you and try them on - even if you hate the way they look on the hanger.  They are dress consultants for a reason.

Whatever size you order, keep in mind that tons of girls have tried on the exact dress you are trying on.  So, it's probably been stretched out a bit.  Keep that in mind when thinking about size.

And to echo Brianna, because this is a VERY important tip: If you do buy your dress this weekend - STOP looking at wedding dresses.  :)

I agree with Brianna 100%.  Buy the dress that fits you now.

Bring some bottled water and maybe a granola bar or snack.

If you don't find "the one" on Friday, don't get discouraged.  You will know it when you find it.  Also don't worry if you don't get overly emotional or have some magic feeling.  Some girls don't, but you'll still know when you find the right one.

Be open to suggestions, but in the end buy the dress that YOU love and want to wear on your wedding day.

I am going to a Maggie Sottero Truck show and I have been stalking her website for the last 2 weeks.  FI even looked with me over the weekend and gave me his 2 cents worth which was great BTW!!!!
