Stepmom and dad have asked me "what do you want for your wedding gift...?"

Our wedding is coming up in a couple of months and my stepmother has asked what we would like as a wedding gift.  She mentioned that she had it in mind to give cash, but my father thought that was too impersonal.  She mentioned that she wants to get us something very nice, but feel kind of on the spot as I'm not sure what they want to spend or what she really had in mind.  They are financially comfortable and are not contributing to the actual wedding costs, so I would imagine that they do want to get us something nice, but I'm not totally sure what direction to go on this. I figured we could put together a list of things that cover a very wide price range, maybe even add a few more extravagant things to the registry that are "just for them". 

I'm wondering if anyone wants to offer some ideas or pass along what they got as a wedding gift from the parents in a similar situation.  Just looking for a little guidance...

You're doing it the right way by making sure that you have a variety of lower priced items.  I think people just get mad when there are a ton of pricey items.

One thing to consider is that you might want to have these things on your registry so that you can use cash received to get a discount when you purchase them.  Many stores have a <strong>discounted registry completion program</strong> if you purchase items 6 months (or sooner/later) after your wedding.  So that's something to mention to people if they make comments on why you have big ticket items on your registry.  <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-wink.gif" border="0" alt="Wink" title="Wink" />
