Advice-People going off registry

Hi...need a little advice.  We've registered at Macy's and Crate & Barrel and we were sure to include items of ALL price ranges.  Recently I've gotten calls from two guests saying they found items that are on my registry cheaper at Bed Bath & Beyond, so take it off my registry and they'd just buy it there.  I'm a little concerned for two reasons; one, I don't want to get into a nightmare situation where I'm having to manage my registry because people are getting things all over.  Second, what if they say they'll buy it so I take it off the registry and they don't end up getting it??? (These guests have a history of being flaky)

Do I just tell them to please buy off the registry or get something else??? I don't want to be rude.

  • I would wait until you have the gift in hand and then take it off the registry.  If someone else buys the duplicate, you can bring it back to Macy's or Crate & Barrel (provided their return policy isn't terrible).

You should not dictate to them what to buy or where to buy it - that would be rude.  You provided a registry as a guide to your guests, hopefully most of them will follow it.

  • Like PP said you can't dictate to someone where they can buy an item. At least they are trying to please you while staying on their budget. I would wait to remove the item from the registry until you get it especially if its an item you really want.

  • Agreed with PP, it would be very rude of you to ask them to buy it at Macy's when they can get it cheaper at BBB.  Actually, we found that BBB had almost everything we wanted at Macy's for cheaper, so we just registered there too and it was the most popular registry.

Anyway, the good thing about the registry is that if you get duplicates, even without a receipt you can return them for credit which you can use to complete the registry later on.
  • The registry is a guide for guests, they can purchase really purchase whatever they want. I would wait until you have the gift in hand before you remove anything from the registry.

  • I agree with PP's.  Wait until the gift is in your hand and then take it off the list.

  • OK, good idea about returning!  Yea, I felt like it would be rude if I told them to get off the registry.

    Thanks guys!!

    This....

If you get a duplicate from BB&B or something than just return the one that was actually on your registry.
  • Isn't it rude to tell a bride that you purchased a gift somewhere else because it was cheaper? I don't know much about this topic but I don't think i'd feel comfortable telling a bride I purchased her gift somewhere else for probably just a few dollars less. That to me seems kind of rude.

  • What's the problem? Why would that be a nightmare? Yay for people finding deals elsewhere!
