JCP online?

My FI and I went last night to do our 2nd registry at JC Penney. He and I both shop there and agreed to register for bedroom sets and things like cookware here. When we went in, we were told that the kiosks had been removed and all registering had to be done online. When I asked how long this had been the case, the lady said a few months, even though she didn't understand why they went that route.

I saw another post on this board from someone who said Sears had done the same thing. Is this a new trend? Will all stores, at some point, move to strictly online registering?

(Note-FI was disappointed, as he likes using the scanner gun like they have at Target! :P)

I went to JCP with FI and they said everything had to be done online as well.  This was a few months ago.  I did not end up registering there.

They probably did this as part of their new re-branding.  I don't think it's a big deal to register online.  When you shop there and see something you like, make a note and add it to your registry when you get home.

On a side note, MIL gave us some of their Cooks cookware and we love our new pots and pans.  My MIL also said that she loves their towels.

Depending on how big your registry is, be careful that what you register for online is available in-store. At Macy's, we registered in-store. The gun wouldn't let me scan bed linens that were about to be discontinued. For table linens, some things were only in-store, and some were only online. If you have guests who will shop in-store, make sure a good portion of your registry is available in-store.

This happened to us too; we went in December and they gave us the same line so we did the registry online.

Where are you? We went to the JCP in Syracuse so it may not be everywhere yet.
