Personalized flip-flops for dance: cheesy, tacky or thoughtful?

Re: Personalized flip-flops for dance: cheesy, tacky or thoughtful?

  • Agreed. Cheesy & tacky. Perhaps look into a pair of nice satin flats for you and the bridesmaids to change into. That would be really nice! I know Dessy has a bunhc in all sorts of colors.
  • Don't spend too much money on bridesmaid's comfy footwear.  They may appreciate it at the time but they're not going to get a lot of use out of it later.

At one wedding I went to, the BMs all changed into those satin bedroom slippers you can get at any department store.

At another wedding, the bride bought a few dozen flipflops and had a big box of them left by the dance floor for all her guests.  If you wanted to hand personalize a few for your girls, that's fine (this does NOT count as your BM gift)

I think the word 'tacky' is way overused.  Your guests got to see you get married, and they got a nice dinner, cake, and a dance party.  Whose night is going to be ruined because a few girls changed into flipflops?

  • I don't think it's tacky, it might be unnecessary though.  You know your girls, is this something they'll like and wear at the wedding?  I think it depends on your crowd.

  • It's not my favorite idea. I don't like the thought of wearing flip-flops to a wedding/reception (even if I were asked to as a bridesmaid) unless the wedding is on a beach. I feel like they're too informal, I think of them as shower shoes for your dorm or just something you wear bumming around on vacation. I'd rather just wear my own shoes that I know are comfortable enough to wear all day and dance in.

  • I prefer they stay in their shoes....flip flops for the ride home maybe?  It might be a nice memento for them

  • I made a flip flop basket for my reception, but they're not personalized for each BM or guest nor will it be mandatory for anyone to take them. They'll be out for whoever would like to give their footsies some relief. I know my feet are always killing me at some point during the reception and love flip flop baskets. I would think the personalization would be a tad cheesy and too much effort for no reason. I would just skip the personalization and provide flip flops for those who choose to take a pair. HTH!
  • I agree with NHelene--the word "tacky" is completely overused on this site. I've seen just about every aspect of a wedding that is not straight out of an etiquette book from the 1950s be deemed as tacky according to people on this board! I say your wedding should be a fun, happy celebration so just relax and do what you like without worrying about who might call it tacky!
  • It is your day!! I would not require them... but it is better than having barefooted BMs IMHO.  :D

BTW I LOVE the flip-flop basket idea!!!

Ditto. I think flip flops are semi-inappropriate at a wedding. I would never wear them TO a wedding as a guest. I will take my shoes off when the wedding is over, thanks.

  • I bought jeweled ones at jcrew for me, my bridesmaids and moms.  Its not their gift or anything, i mean they were really cheap.  its just for fun if we want them for the reception.  After standing up doing pictures then ceremony from 1:00 until 7 or 8, I think its worth it!  Plus, we're all wearing floor length so no one is going to see it anyway.
