Just started registering..QUESTIONS!!

Hi ladies :)

So my fiancé and I just opened registries at BB&B and Macys. We don't have a home yet.... so how do you register for things like bathroom towels and oven mits when we have no idea what our home will look like?? Should we just not register for these things? I can assume what colors I will be using...but my fiancé keeps saying that "we don't know till we have a house." Should I just pick a color scheme and go?

what should I do ladies?

  • I would say pick colors that you like that would go with others well.  Unless you're going to be very picky & have to have all your towels the same color, I don't think it matters that much.

  • I registered for relatively neutral-colored bath towels that should work for multiple decorating themes.  In the kitchen, I registered for several sets of different colored dish towels and potholders.  I figure they are the type of items that we will always need and I wasn't too concerned about coordinating my potholders with the decor.

As PP pointed out, you can always exchange colors later.
  • We're in the same boat. We actually just registered last night! We picked color schemes we liked and just went with it! :)

  • Did you pick dishes?  You could get kitchen goods to match those.

If you are nervous about the colors in the bath, you can always stick with neutrals.

  • We had ideas about what colors we would use and went with that.  Stick with neutral if you are nervous.  For dishes, we just stuck with white and that had fun colored accent pieces to spice it up.

If you don't want to worry about that, just stick with things you know and you can add towels and stuff later on.

  • I agree with PPs. Also, when you go, you may find something you really like. When FI and I went to register, we didnt know what we wanted (we are renting an apartment starting Jan 1) and we found a Brown/Blue bed set and loved it! We went from there. Keep the bathroom neutral if you arent sure what to get. Even if you change your mind, it is always nice to have a backup set for guests........and when you dont have time to do laundry :)
  • We are in the same boat and are registering for brown towels because I know I prefer brown color schemes in my bathroom more than black based-FI doesn't care.

If after you get married you want to just set the things like that aside and not use them until you move into your home and decide or a decor scheme you could probably return some items and get them to coordinate.

You could also not register for those kinds of things and pick them up on your own-maybe with some of the cash you receive at gifts at your wedding?

  • thanks ladies!! all helpful advice :) For bedroom I want to do different shades of blue along with neutral colors and bathroom blues/greens- sort of beachy. I think I am just going to trust and go with it!

    Thanks :)
