Going to Register - Any tips?

We're going to register for our July wedding shortly.  I'm think Macy's and maybe another store.  Any questions to ask before registering or things to look into (besides return policies)?  Thanks ladies!

Re: Going to Register - Any tips?

  • I'd suggest looking online and getting a feel for what they carry before you go in to register. We actually created our registry online and then went in to add things we neeed to see in person.
  • We did Target last weekend and Bed, Bath, and Beyond this weekend. We originally planned to do them both the same day, but didn't realize it would take so long. We spent at least 2 hours in Target and were exhausted from walking around and making so many decisions (I even had a list!), so we just did one a week.

Also, I checked our Target registry today and saw a couple baby items that just suddenly appeared! So sometimes other people's items get added and you have to delete them. I also noticed a few items that we scanned didn't show up so I had to search for those. It was pretty annoying.

The BBB registry experience was first class! No impersonal kiosk machine. They sit you down in a little "office" area with a rep. Then they set up your registry for you (we did it online ahead of time and saved 20 minutes) and give you lots of info and answer your questions. Then they help you get started and are always on call if you need help. When you're done, they have a gift bag waiting for you with more information to help you with your registry. You can even call customer service 24/7 for help. And they have a few other "perks" - if you register for  a certain dollar amount of various items, you get free stuff. If your guests complete a certain dollar amount for other items, you get more free stuff. And there's more! Your registry is active for 2 years and you can continue buying items off your registry for a 10% discount after the wedding.  I definitely recommend it BBB!!

  • Since my FI and I are long-distance, we did crate and barrel and bed bath and beyond on the same day when we were visiting his parents around the holidays. It was a marathon and I think we were both pretty exhausted by the end. As others have said, make sure you have a good amount of time. I think the biggest thing was not being shy about scanning stuff. If you see something you want, scan it. You can always take it off your list if you change your mind and a few clicks on the computer is a lot easier than walking back and forth across the store multiple times. Most importantly, don't forget to have fun! Once we both really got into it, it was a blast.
