registering for furniture

My fiance and I are in need of furniture more than anything else, can we register for furniture, or ask for gift cards to a furniture store? How do we do that? Need ideas please, thank you.

Re: registering for furniture

  • People register for big ticket items all the time. Sometimes it's worth putting them on a registry because many stores give the B&G a significant discount when you close out your registry after the wedding. So, say some people get you gift cards to the store. You can choose to spend these on some of the furniture items you selected and spend your own money on the rest of the collection. Then you can still score the 15% or whatever discount!

And some people enjoy going in for group gifts (extended family, co-workers, groups of friends...)

You should register for whatever you really want.

[QUOTE]In Response to registering for furniture : I would make a very small registry and spread the word you are saving up for furniture.  It can get expensive for your guests to make a furniture registry.

This exactly. You can't really ask people to give you gift cards, as it's similar to asking for cash. But if you make a small enough registry, there won't be enough items for the # of guests and they are more likely to give you gift cards to that store or cash. Believe me, I'm in the same predicament.
  • We added one small piece of furniture to our registry - a bookcase type thing. The rest of our registry contains the standard registry items. I think you can add one small piece of furniture to your registry at a store like Macy's, but it is a little tacky to register for only furniture. Like PP said just keep your registry very very small and people will understand you would prefer cash or GCs.
  • I will keep it small than and see what happens. I don't need a lot of things, so keeping it small should be simple. Thank you all for the advice, I will be happy with whatever I get as gifts. I wish you all well on your big days, thank you for the advice. Laughing
