Gift Card Tree Help

Is there any good way to suggest a gift card tree? My FI and I already have our house and everything we need. We really want to make some home improvements and had rather our guests did buy something we really don't need. We are trying to be practical not rude. We are both tight with money and don't believe in wasting it. I'm looking for a tasteful way to tell our guests. Word of mouth is always good but i know some people had rather buy gifts. The only thing I can think to register for is towels and candles.

Re: Gift Card Tree Help

  • Register for the towels. Anything you'd like to upgrade? A new sheet set, maybe, some upgraded kitchen items.

Just keep your registry small, and let the rest go by word of mouth. No need to do anything else - people will get the picture.
  • I have never heard of a "gift card tree."

I agree with Leisel -- there is no good way to suggest ANYTHING when it comes to gifts.  I would recommend that you create a small registry of the thing you do need/want -- the towels are a good start.  Surely there are other things that you would like to upgrade?  Maybe really nice sheets?  Cool barware?   If you are looking to do home improvement, you could maybe register at Lowes or Home Depot (I think both do registries) and register for tools and stuff.   At any rate, people will at leat get the hint that you are doing home improvement, and will possibly give you cash or gift cards to Lowes/Home Depot.

If anyone ASKS, you can tell them "We are saving up for home renovation projects" -- your family can also tell people who might ask them.   But it's rude to bring it up.

No matter the intent, it it still rude.  Make a small registry of upgrades and people will take the hint to give cash.  If you do this though, you have to decline all showers also.

  • Could you maybe register at a home improvement store like Lowe's or Sear's or something?

<div>This.  Your registry doesn't have to just be sheets and dishes.  You can register for a drill, saw, paint supplies or whatever else you'll need for the home improvement.  </div><div>
</div><div>When people ask about the registry, have your parents or whoever say "they have a small registry at X, but are really saving to remodel their kitchen."  </div>
  • Thanks for the input. I know it seems like their should be some simple things we want to upgrade but we were very fortunate went we bought our house. We had been saving and buying for 5 years. His Grandparents surprised us with China to put in our built in cabinet and a few other things they picked up at antique auctions. And as far as showers I don't mind skipping that part. We are having a bridal lunch with family with some out of town family and the wedding is more just an excuse to pull everyone together. Word of mouth it is with a small amount on a registry
