Viewing who purchased a gift online

I went to manage one of my gift registries today and noticed a few items that were purchased. One of the purchases was from my fiance's mother-which come to find out was supposed to be my bridal shower surprise that she told him about.

Should I tell my fiance what I found out or just wait until after the bridal shower? I don't want to upset him but I did not intentionally go in to spoil any surprises...is that the down side to knowing who got you what item??  Anyone else deal with something like this? I refuse to keep secrets in my relationship but I'm not sure how to handle this. Thanks!!

  • Okay, yeah, you should be honest with your significant other but I think you're going to extremes here.

You found out about a surprise.  Big deal.  It's not some life-altering event.  Keep quiet about it and act surprised.

  • I'd probably tell my FI as well. You didn't intentionally do something awful, just open up about it. How do you know its from her? Btw

Agreed.  If your FI gets upset over something like this, he might need to rethink his priorities/emotional control.
  • ebbowman, I know some of my online registries have a thank-you-card organizer that allows me to know who bought what off the registry.  I assume that's how OP knows.

  • Jill - I know Pottery Barn and Williams Sonoma do.  I don't think BBB does, though.

Amazon does, too.  I don't think BBB or Macy's do, or at least I haven't figured it out.

Darn.  Not that I wanted to look and see who has gotten me which gifts or anything(that's a lie, I have a registry stalking problem)!

  • Macy's does do it, I accidentally figured it out one day while scrolling through their registry manager site (oops).  I didn't mean to, but I got a couple little surprises ruined, and now I won't look until after my shower!   BBB doesn't do it, though.

  • There are a lot of sites that show you how many of a certain thing are left or what has been fufilled. It's bound to happen you stumble upon something like this, but it takes all the fun out of opening gifts and finding what was purchased off your registry (or not off the registry in some cases).

  • C&B does it, although the givers check yes or no if they want their name listed (otherwise it just says x was bought).

Yeah, don't look at your registry for maybe a month before the shower or you can't help but ruin the surprise. But it's not a big deal. You registered for the stuff so it wasn't going to be that big of a surprise anyway.
