macy's registry and sales

So, I started my Macy's registry pretty early and I chose things that were in certain price points. The china that I chose was fifty percent off in a sale and I really like it. But, if the sale ends, should I switch it? So far, when random things have been taken off the sale price, I've switched them out for other things that were in that price range. But, the sales are just soo good and I really like the stuff I picked.

Will it confuse people if I switch something out when it's not on sale anymore or should I just leave the registry as it is? Right now, I have over three months to the wedding but as it gets closer should this strategy change?

Re: macy's registry and sales

  • Choose the things you like, making sure you have a range of price points whether they are on sale or not. Don't worry about trading things when they are on sale or not. Have fun!

  • They have sales more often than they don't. I registry stalked, and every now and then an item would be full-price, but it was usually on sale. Don't worry about it.

Wow - if you keep switching things:
    a) you have more time on your hands than most of us.
    b) you might end up with a weird mismash of things that don't go together well.

Register what you like, make sure you have stuff at various price points and let it go.

I would seriously urge you to register the same things at BB&B and a lot of people will disagree with me - the reason I say this is that they typically run sales at different times than Macy's so if an item isn't on sale at Macy's your guests may find it on sale at BBB. It means checking 2 websites which is pretty darn easy.

I honestly have never heard of anyone switching items on their registry as often as you must be doing it. Macy's does run a TON of sales (I picked up an $80 calphalon chili pot for $15 recently!!) Got crystal normally $39 a stem for $8.11 each. But I watch the sales, use coupons, etc.

Another thing - about changing your china pattern. ... unless you expect someone to walk in and buy you 12 place settings at once, 12 is what most people register for, you'll never get a complete set. You'll have 2 of this one, 1 of another, 3 of yet another and so on. I don't see a lot of sense in that......
  • Macy's have sales all the time and send emails as well to let you know in advance.

Put announcements of upcoming sales on your website if you don't want to email guests directly. Everyone woman likes to know when there's a sale. I've checked my registery many times, and lots of things gone off it that I didn't get at my shower, - people have obviously taken advantage of sale notifications I've sent!

And I'm one of the 90% of people who totally disagree with this.

    A) BB&B does not have sales.

    B) If you register for a blender at BB&B and Macys, you run the very possible risk of getting two blenders. So that means you either have to 1) monitor your registry to immediately remove it from the place you didn't get it from, or 2) return an item later. How annoying and confusing for guests.

  • BBB does run some sales, additionally they constantly send 20% off coupons. We get them ,as does just about everyone we know, every couple of weeks. When I shop for wedding gifts I do look to see if they registered the same item, if its something I'm interested in giving, at more than one vendor so that I can find good prices.

I wouldn't, personally, register for china based on sales price given that things do go off sale and the length of time your registry will probably be open. Sales are typically very shot lived so registring for an item because it is on sale one week won't usually work - unless it is a discontinued or clearance item and then you can't be sure of availability.

Each person obviously makes their own choice and yes, if registering the same item at more than one store you would need to monitor both, as you get closer to the wedding you might need to monitor them a bit more closely but typically once a week would be good. Most people, whether they admit it or not, DO check their registries - they might not admit to reigstry stalking but they do it. And yes, I'm aware there are probably some who truly do not.

I'm not trying to pick a fight over my opion/suggestions - that is al lthey are - as is the information posted by anyone else. Pick what works for you and it will all work out and be fine.

In my experience, BBB carries the same items at Macy's, but their regular price is often the same as the Macy's sale price. Our silverware, for instance, is always $29.99 at BBB, it is regularly $49 at Macy's but comes on sale for around $30. And on top of it, your guests can use the 20% coupons on almost everything.

We would have only registered at BBB, but only Macy's had the china we wanted. I wished BBB carried it, it would have been so much cheaper!

To answer OPs question, just leave the stuff you like on the registry. Macy's sales revolve pretty regularly, so something on your registry will be on sale most of the time. You'll drive yourself crazy if you try to keep switching it. Our china is on sale about 70% of the time.
