Open stock or sets for cookware?

I have a set of nonstick I'm very happy with, but wanted to register for a few stainless steel pieces. Is there a general consensus on whether you should register for sets or open stock? I think I only want three pieces, but it 's nearly as expensive as registering for an 8 piece set. I figure people will be more inclined to buy individual pieces, but my family/friends often do group gifts like this, so I'm torn. I'm sure experience varies - which did you choose?

Re: Open stock or sets for cookware?

  • Go ahead and do open stock.  If you don't want the whole set, you will just have a large bulky thing to return... if you even get it at all.

  • Go for open stock.   This way you can go for the individual pieces you want and it keeps the costs down for guests.
  • Go for open stock.  I registered for individual pieces and was actually able to return them for a whole set.  Plus, if you don't need a whole set, so why register for one?
