Food storage containers

Hey Ladies!
So I realized today that the only thing I don't have on my registry is tupperware! There are so many kinds at BB&B I have no idea which is best. I'm looking for storing both dry food and leftovers - non-fridge and fridge. Which kinds would you recommend for storing dry food and which would you recommend for leftovers in the fridge?
Thanks!

Re: Food storage containers

  • I use the rubbermaid with the red lids.  They are really good for both wet and dry and stack nicely.

  • If you want to microwave, I'd go with Pyrex.  The can't melt in the microwave like other containers can.

Otherwise, go for what you see working for your size/space.
  • I love my pyrex sets with the blue lids.  The glass can even be sterilized if someone forgets about their work lunch for a week.  The lids fit well and are easy to put on and take off.  Crate and barrel has a glass set too and I like those for smaller items.
  • I would recommend the Rubbermaid Premier line of plastic storage dishes.  They are fantastic!  Dishwasher/microwave safe.  They don't get bent or warped as they are a harder plastic.  In addition, you can store/freeze/microwave things like chili and spaghetti sauce without it staining the container.  I bought some last fall at Target during a sale and they still look brand new.

  • I love all of the Oxo storage canisters for dry food. We use them for pasta, cereal, nuts, crackers, cookies, etc and they fit way better in cabinets and definitely keep the food fresher.

  • I also like the OXO brand of storage containers. We have a couple and registered for more because they were very durable, and very good quality.

  • Thanks ladies! Sounds like pyrex and rubbermaid are the winners- I'll take a look at those.
I've been using random tupperware from my parents house for ages now, so it'll be nice to have a complete set of our own!
  • We have an OXO container that we keep filled with flour in the fridge and have been happy with it as well.
