Shower Gripe

This is only semi- wedding related. I got an invitation yesterday for my SIL's baby shower, being thrown by my cousin. Even though it's not a wedding shower, isn't it customary for the thrower to pay for the event? The invitation I got is for a baby shower luncheon "Dutch Treat." So I have to drive 7 hours and buy a gift, and then I have to pay for my own meal too? Jeeze. I had the same thing happen at my cousin's wedding reception (they eloped) - the invitation had their registries on it. You don't invite me to your actual wedding but you still want presents?

I was grappling with having an open bar at my wedding but now I don't feel bad AT ALL to make it a cash bar ;)
