XP: Shoes as GM gifts?

So FI decided long ago that he would get his GM custom Vans as their WP gift, so they could wear them in the wedding and then after.

All the guys are Vans-wearing type of guys, but after reading here that gifts shouldn't be something to be used for the wedding, I'm not sure if this is still appropriate. Would it make a difference if the shoes were in our wedding colors, or just regular colors, or if the guys designed the shoes themselves?

Do men care about this sort of thing? I know I've seen a lot of BMs comment on receiving jewelry for the wedding that they never wore again, does this fall into the same category?

  • I think it's a great idea if it's something they'll really love even after the wedding.

[QUOTE]I think as long as you get them something else it's okay.  I might check with them first.

</div><div>Most guys aren't as picky as us ladies are. For instance, I don't wear hoop earrings. I have nothing against them, just not my style. If someone gave me them to wear in a wedding, I'd wear it there & never again. Most guys don't care that much. As long as the item isn't hideous, they'd wear it again.</div><div>
</div><div>Still ask them all if they'd use them after. Generalizing is usually when you get in trouble.</div>
  • I think its much better than giving a personalized beer glass that says "Joe Smith Groomsmen 12-12-12" especially since the guys like Vans.  The only thing I would be cautious of is anything that you are requiring of them to wear at the wedding isn't really a gift.  Maybe you can do that and a starbucks gift card as well?  IMHO I think the shoes are just fine...anything given to me free is a gift in my opinion whether they want me to wear that at a certain place or not, if I get to keep it and its free sounds like a gift.

  • I think that's pretty awesome you guys thought that out so well; I'm sure the groomsmen will appreciate it.
