Bad Idea?

I was thinking it would be fun to maybe add to our registry a tropical/hawaian shirt and dress with beach towels and sunblock for our honeymoon! Thought it would be cute and funny! Think it's a bad idea?

Re: Bad Idea?

  • I prefer to see items for the new couple's home on a registry rather than personal items like clothes. I think more people would find that strange than would find it cute.
  • Yeah, I see what you're saying. I def. wouldn't add a bunch of clothing items. Just thought the one dress and shirt would be fun. But wasn't sure what people would think about it.

  • I wouldn't have any issue with the beach towels or sunscreen, but I would give a side-eye to the Hawaiian shirts.
  • I'd be giving a side eye to everything except maybe beach towels.

  • Personally I think the sunblock and beach towels would be cute especially if your friends know where your honeymoon is going to be. (and I'd be the smart ass to actually buy something like that off of a friends registry, along with a nice gift too) So I don't think anything is wrong with those, again thats what I think though

[QUOTE]Well, I'm in the minority because if I saw those things on your registry, I would buy them together, package them in a cute oversided beach tote and put a little note about it being a "custom honeymoon gift set" or something like that.

I would also do something like this.  I love making cute gift "baskets"

That's exactly what I would do.

    Absolutely! :^D

    Wowwww.....
  • Hahaha! Moon pies!!! Those are really good though! My sister and her husband did a road trip along California's coast and they put snacks like chips and dip on their target registery. We have a pretty comical family and friends, so people would probably laugh when they imagine the two of us in matching tropical outfits! And we would totally sport them.

  • I think it's a fun idea. It's not like you're registering for your honeymoon and I don't think fun items to use on the honeymoon are any different than luggage items people register for.

[QUOTE]I think guests would understand that. It's a single toilet brush and a box of moon pies on a registry that made me cringe.....

What is wrong with the toilet brush?  Was it that those were the only 2 things on the registry, or because a toilet brush is weird to put on a registry, or because it's a single item standing alone?

I ask because I have a lemon zester, mellon baller, veggie peeler, and an icecream scoop as individual items on my registry.  If that is strange, I would definitely like to know before guests see it.

  • I think the idea of a veggie peeler, ice cream scoop and other small kitchen items is a great idea.  These are the things someone just starting out will use; forget the yogurt and break makers.  You will wear out some of your smaller items before you even take the yogurt maker out of its package.  Also, I always thought shower gifts were supposed to be the smaller items; save the pricier things for wedding gifts.

I think for the toilet brush, it's just the knowing what it's going to be used for. And not that there's anything wrong with one, we all have to clean our toilets of course. It's just not something I've seen much of on registries.... again, brushes are not "bad" items to put, just out of the ordinary. To me, anyway.

fwiw, I don't think your kitchen items are strange at all. I love food prep items, though.
  • Okay, cool.  That's what I thought, but I wanted to be sure.  Yea, I def would not want to buy someone a toilet brush as a gift, I'd have to give it unwrapped with just a bow tied around it if I did though.
