We just started doing our registries this past weekend, and although we've registered for what feels like a lot of stuff, I'm worried it won't be enough with our large guest list.
We're registering at Macy's and at Target. We were kind of on our own at Target, but when we went to Macy's, we were actually helped by a consultant, and she said that they normally suggest registering for about 50-100 more items than the number of guests you're inviting.
Thing is, we're inviting about 340 people (crazy large Mexican and Italian families)! She suggested with that number that we register for about 400 items. Right now, between the two stores, we've registered for about 150 things. Also, it looks like I'm getting two showers (our families decided to throw two seperate ones for each side so that the guest lists for the showers don't end up being as big as the wedding itself).
FI and I are still planning to go back to Macy's and register for a few more things, but at this point, I can't see us really finding THAT much more that we really need or want. We both lived seperately on our own before moving in together two years ago. Even with updating and replacing the stuff we currently have, I don't see us finding 250 more things to register for!
I'm just worried because the lady at Macy's kept stressing to us that you don't want your guests to feel like they have nothing left to choose from on your registry. At the same time, I'd feel super gift-grabby if I actually registered for 400 things. Is there a more realistic number I should be aiming for? Has anyone else invited this many people to their wedding? If so, how many items did you register for?
Thanks in advance, and I seriously would love to talk to anyone else who has had a huge wedding... I feel like I'm crazy for agreeing to invite the whole family sometimes!
