Ok, So I'm starting to narrow down songs for the wedding and I want to give my dad some options for the F/D dance.
For my sister's wedding he switched her song to "I know you" from Sleeping Beauty and it was sweet. But to make a long story short: My dad and I have always been extremely close, but then when a guy I was dating asked his permission to marry me, he said no. That ultimately ended that relationship (though it turned out to be a good thing). Then when my FI asked his permission, AGAIN my dad said no. I am the baby in the family and my dad was a minister all my life, but since FI is not a christian my dad will not give his blessing. I am no longer in a church or belief, so therefor this is not a "deal breaker" for me. We ultimately posponed getting engaged for a year, hoping he would change his mind. Well we've given up on that idea, but my dad has agreed to walk me down the aisle, but not officiate the wedding (like he did at my sisters).
So back to the point: I am having a hard time coming up with something for us to dance to, because of our strained relationship. I just heard Adele's song- "Make you feel my Love". I don't know the background of the song, but it made me think of him. Is this weird? Any other suggestion NOT "Butterfly Kisses"

?

Gosh, that's such a hard situation. I'm sorry you've been through this.
I'm very close to my dad and he picked "Father/Daughter" by Paul Simon. It's actually from a Nickolodean kids movie and I get really weepy when I think about it. It's a little bit faster in pace but still really sweet.
Reba McEntire- Your gonna be
Ben Folds- Still Fighting It
Trace Adkins -They Do

[QUOTE]Shortgirl - Do you mean "Then They Do?" That was my father/daughter song! It has my name in it. :)

Ha, probably. I know the Reba title is wrong so I'm sure I have the others wrong too, LOL.

This is the song I plan to use as well.
If you leap awake in the mirror of a bad dream
And for a fraction of a second you can't remember where you are
Just open your window and follow your memory upstream
To the meadow in the mountain where we counted every falling star
I believe a light that shines on you will shine on you forever
And though I can't guarantee there's nothing scary hiding under your bed
I'm gonna stand guard like a postcard of a Golden Retriever
And never leave 'til I leave you with a sweet dream in your head
[Chorus:]
I'm gonna watch you shine
Gonna watch you grow
Gonna paint a sign
So you'll always know
As long as one and one is two
There could never be a father
Who loved his daughter more than I love you
Trust your intuition
It's just like goin' fishin'
You cast your line and hope you get a bite
But you don't need to waste your time
Worryin' about the market place
Try to help the human race
Struggling to survive its harshest night
[QUOTE]The song that we picked for the father daughter dance, is "I Loved Her First" by Heartland, my dad and I both love it and he made sure it was the song I picked because I am his baby girl

I cry like a baby on that one! I'm still tempted to switch our song to that though!!!
The one I picked for my dad is "My Little Girl" by Tim McGraw. I hope he can forgive me since he isn't a Tim fan, but maybe he won't notice! :)
My cousin, when she got married in 08, her and my uncle danced to "My Wish" by Rascal Flatts.
[QUOTE]Is it just me or is every song country! lol

Hey, mine aren't country!

[QUOTE]I'm not hating on country! lol. Its just not the style I would use for my wedding, We're having Jazz Standards for the formal part of the reception then party mixes after (when the old people go to bed ).

You could do "As Time Goes By" by Jimmy Durante (it's a little more light hearted than other versions) or "Make Someone Happy" by Jimmy Durante as well. If I had done a mother/daughter dance, I would have chosen the second one.
I love Jimmy Durante, Julie!
I'm not so good with the advice... Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?
[QUOTE]What about a James Taylor song? You've Got a Friend? I love Jimmy Durante, Julie!

I love his "Make Someone Happy". Whenever my mom and I would go to NYC, I would sing it to her if we were struggling wtih something (subway, walking, etc). So, when she was still in the hospital last year and hadn't quite come out of it, I would play it for her on my iPod. It's a very special song to us.
