Day of; gift for your future hubby?

I wasnt sure where else to post this question? Im curious what u gals are doing for your FI's day of wedding gift? My FI told me he has something in line for me that he has to put together(whatever that meens, lol) And Im clueless as what to get him. What are you girls doing? Is it tradition for the best man to deliver the gift to him before the ceremony or do the two of us exchange in private?

Re: Day of; gift for your future hubby?

  • The traditional gift from wife to husband is a nice watch. It's usually delivered to him before the ceremony, as traditionally you two would not see each other that day before you walk down the aisle.

  • I'm doing b-pics and giving them to him the night before the wedding, something to keep him company while I"m at the hotel :)

  • I'm doing boudoir pics as well.

  • We only exchanged heartfelt, hand written cards.

  • We really splurged on our HM so we didn't give each other gifts.
  • I have no idea what to get FI but I think he's planning on getting me a nice desktop computer for gaming. He likes to go all out(got an iPod touch 64GB for Valentines Day even though we agreed on cheaper presents...)
    I have a partial present of a Groom's Cake, but I don't know what else to get/do.

  • I am getting him a Charcoal Half Barrell Grill.  He has been wanting one for a long time and loves to grill out and BBQ.  Also, since it is in May it will be perfect right before summer!  I am giving it to him at the rehearsal dinner (which is at our house) since it is a little too large to be delivered by a groomsman.  I am not sure if he is planning on getting me anything but that doesn't matter, I have been planning this for some time.  Hope you all have a wonderful wedding!
  • I started making a scrapbook of letters of the last seven months of our engagement. It has stuff like our engagement pictures, registery receipts, random event tickets, etc. in it. He really likes to read, so I figured this way he would have something to special to read before the wedding. And, instead of getting the best man to deliver it, I am actually going to set up a scavenger hunt for him and the other groomsmen, that way they will all be entertained.
  • We've decided not to do this tradition, we're putting a lot of money into the house and also into the honeymoon, so we decided to spend that cash on those things. We might do a card or something, but nothing costly.

When I told him I thought it was a good idea to skip this tradition (he wasn't even aware of it) my finacée (jokingly) made the eloquent observation "You're getting me, no gift can top that."

  • I was thinking of getting my FI a PS3. But a watch is a good option too, and he did mention that he needed one!

  • Not sure if we're doing this tradition or not, but one suggestion I've heard is nice cologne for him to wear for the day of the wedding.
  • Richard Petty Driving Experience.  I know, SO romantic!  He'll love it.
  • I am having the same problem!  I don't want to spend too much because we are putting in some money ourselves, but every idea I come up with seems to be over the top...hopefully I can think of something in the next 7 months...

  • I gave him a hand embroidered pocket square, cologne, and a blackberry. He gave me diamond earrings.

  • I don't know that we'll be able to afford a gift for each other, really, as we are putting a lot of money into the wedding ourselves.  If we do anything, I think maybe we'd do personalized Pirates baseball jerseys. We are doing a post-wedding game with some friends & acquaintances a week after the wedding, so it'd be fun to have nice baseball jerseys with our first initial and last name on the back. (If there are 2 people on the same MLB team, that's how they do it, i.e. A. Rodriguez, J. Rodriguez).  We're pretty big fans, so I'd rather have a real jersey as opposed to just a t-shirt.  They run about $100+ each.

  • As we are on an insanely tight budget we agreed not to get each other anything. But I went and bought a cute crafted journal and inside I am filling it with love letters, wedding details, poems, song lyrics, and a ton of other stuff. He's very sentimental so I thought it would be a cute gift.

  • We are just doing a card or note to each other.  Ditto others about spending money on the Hm and our house, so we're not doing gifts.  I did make him a pair of cufflinks though.

  • i designed a custom tallit (jewish prayer shawl) for him, and am having a local fabric artist sew it for him.   very personal, and not overly expensive.

i don't think he's planning on getting me anything, which is fine.

  • I did boudior photos as well.  I did put alittle twist on it though, I have given him a photo for his album on the 21st of every month. He will have a total of 12 photos.

Then on our wedding day I plan to have a canvas printed to hang in our bedroom.
  • I think I'm going to surprise him by booking an excursion on our honeymoon.  Probably a snorkeling trip or something else we don't decide on ahead of time.  If I can do the snorkeling thing, I'll probably buy a disposable underwater camera to actually give him with a note about what I booked.

  • I'd love to do boudoir pics, but probably won't be able to afford that.  My plan is to get something he will enjoy seeing me in for our honeymoon... and for all I know, that's what he is planning on getting for me!  :)

  • we are getting a puppy as our wedding gift to each other.  almost more exciting than the actual wedding!  although, if for some reason that does not work out, then a ponymaid's grill idea will be stolen.  :)
  • I'm doing a past, present & future type of thing...

Past: When we were 'just friends' I told him I loved old school Nintendo and he told me he had one .He told me later he bought one off of ebay and had it overnighted in ;)  so we started spending more time together at his place playing on it. I got him old school Nintendo controller cufflinks to represent the beginning!

Present: Boudior Phot Album, but very classy ones!

Future: A Jayhawk Onesie... he is so in love with his Alma Matter and our kids will for sure go there some day!

  • I don't know if we're going to do this yet or not, but I think it's a nice idea. I would just make sure you talk about it ahead of time because if one of you gets a gift and the other doesn't then the person who didn't get a gift might feel bad (definitely not what you want on your wedding day!).
  • I gave my hubby a Thors Hammer pendant. He's Swedish (norse) background so it worked nicely. I gave it to him the night before the wedding and he wore it at the wedding.
