Surprise Gift on Registry...?

I was looking through my registry and found extra spoon measures (I already had some on there which were already purchased) and an iced tea maker...both of which were not "requested" on my BB&B registry, but were "fulfilled" and put on my registry. Of course I'll be grateful for whatever I receive, but what gives!? I purposely made a registry of only things my fiance and I *really* wanted or needed - and just enough to make my two registries sufficient - because we really would like money to pay for this wedding, honeymoon, and the house we own...not iced tea makers (Do you really need an iced tea "maker" to "make" iced tea, anyway? Seems simple enough without one...). Just give me the $20, for goodness sake, and spare me a trip back to the store for returns! And there were plenty of things on my registries as far as price range already...(from $20 - $500)

Anybody else have this issue?

If I would go into BB&B and buy you a gift and buy something for myself at the same time, both items would show up as fulfilled on your registry - whether the one item was on your registry or not.

Honestly, if they do give it to you, try not to take it badly.  I mean, registries aren't invoices, and guests can give you whatever they want - it doesn't have to be limited to your registry or cash.  Many people view registries as nothing more than generic suggestions... and the person who bought those measuring spoons might have a set herself and really thinks they're great quality or something, and then bought them for you because she saw that you wanted a set of measuring spoons.  Who knows?  Anyway, they may not be for you, but if they are just deal with the returns.  I'm sure you didn't mean to come off this way but you sound a little "my way or the highway" in your post.

I agree with this. But also, we did have a couple guests (no more than two I'd say) buy us something not on our registry. I can't remember one but I know the other was a wedding picture frame, something small. Chances are, they were there shopping off your registry and came across something else they thought you'd like and picked it up for you. If you do end up getting any of these non-registry gifts, be grateful and thankful to the giver, send a nice TY note, and then try to return it for store credit and purchase something you want from your registry.

Don't be surprised if you start seeing things like candy, or a snapple iced tea on your registry as "fulfilled".  If anyone buys anything at the same time they are purchasing your gift, they will all appear on your registry.  BB&B does that all the time.

<div>As PPs have mentioned the iced tea set might not even be for you--it might have just gotten scanned at the same time as something from your registry--but even if it is, that doesn't make the purchaser a bad person for thinking of you and wanting to gift you something! Those who venture off-registry aren't trying to be jerks--they're trying to do something nice for you. If you don't like the nice thing they're trying to do for you, that's what the return policy is for, but try to make sure that you don't let them find out about your decision to return the item.</div>

The only comment that I'm going to make is that you shouldn't be counting on monetary gifts to pay for your wedding, honeymoon, or house. If you can't afford your wedding, don't have it. If you can't afford the honeymoon on your own, don't go.

As my grandmother would say: "Don't count your chickens before they hatch." Your guests should not be thought of as wedding payment options. Be grateful for any gift you get and either return it or keep it.
