Hello everyone, we got married 3 months ago, and I just wanted to share with everyone our registry experiences. First of all, we went with Macy's and Target. Macy's has been great, they have sent us mulitple coupons for completion (20% off, plus they alway have home sales too), and they gave us a gift card for 5% the amount people spent on gifts for us. awesome.
Target however, has been a huge disappointment. In the beginning, the website was off and on at best, They also rotate the items they have available in the home department a lot, so every couple weeks I would have 5 or 6 things drop off the registry because they were no longer available. After the wedding, we got a 10% completion coupon. It says it could be used once in store and once online. It says "Save 10% off anything left in your registry." I was able to use it in the store to buy towels, no problem. When I tried to purchase a lamp and a door mat online about a week ago, I was getting an error that said "You have not met requirements for this code." I clicked the get help button, and explained my situation. My coupon expired today, which I realize I should have tried to use it sooner, but we were waiting until we moved in to our new house, so we could buy what we actually needed.  After a few days, I got a response back from target that said "Sorry, but you have to buy your entire registry to use that coupon." For one thing, we registered for like $2000 worth of stuff, there is no way we can afford to buy that much. Also, lots of people purchased stuff off the registry for us, but didn't mark it off, so we don't actually need all of it. I was frustrated, because no one even took the time to look into our problem, because there is no way that coupon means you have to buy your whole list. It says no where on it that you do. The only real disclaimer it has, is that it can't be used on gift cards or electronics.
So I was frustrated.  I sent an email back saying that I was unhappy and that my coupon was going to expire unused. I was planning on using my one target giftcard, and then buying everything else we need for our home at Macy's, because they extended the 20% off to everything in the home dept, not just our registry items. When I got online to order the lamp I was planning on buying with the gift card, it had gone up in price. By $10. And then I would have to pay $10 shipping. I give up. I am going to buy groceries with my gift card, and then be done with target. This whole thing was just such a hassle, and no one from target seems to care.
