storing silver?

What is the best way to store silver so it doesn't tarnish?  Any brand recommendations?  Do we need to get individual place setting holders, or is one larger storage system ok?  TIA, DH is is tired of polishing silver!

Re: storing silver?

  • Get a felt-lined storage chest.  This will help slow the oxidation process dramatically, without having to vacuum seal.  Some people store in ziplock bags, which apparently works, but then you have the pieces knocking against each other which can get them scratched.  I would consider investing in a good quality flatware storage chest that's double-layered and large enough to hold all your place settings and serving pieces.

  • My grandmother's lives in a felt lined chest in her closet and she rarely has to polish it. She just washes and dries it whenever it's used and then it goes back in the box.
