registering at a home improvement store?

My fiance and I have been living together for about a year.  We already have most of the basic items one would normally register for.  However, we just bought a house and would really appreciate any type of gift that would help us with areas of the house we would like to fix up.  Is it possible to register at Home Depot or Lowes?  Is that tacky to do?  We really want to redo our bathroom and paint the outside of our house this spring.  I was thinking we could list certain items we wanted such as shower head, faucet, towel hangers, etc.  Would it be rude to list specific items and also list a gift card?  Just FYI, we are also registering for some items at Macys.  Thanks for your help!

  • I don't think it's tacky. We're registering for home improvement items via Amazon. Mostly just tools. I know people that have listed Home Depot gift cards on their registry and I was never offended by it. I knew they had a house to fix up.
  • I think as long as you are registering at another location (like Macy's as you said) that way if people want to buy you "traditional" items they can, I think it's fine.  We're registering at Sears for some tools and items to update our place, but also BB&B and C&B for other items.

  • I don't think it's tacky.  I believe Home Depot and Lowe's discontinued their registries, but you could register for tools at Sears.
  • i dont think its tacky at all to register at lowe's or home depot!! if thats what you want a need, then do it!! also if you dont register there people will always assume to give you money and you can put that money towards fixing up your house. i think its a great idea and i looove it!! good luck!!

  • It's not tacky at all. We put some stuff on our myregistry.com registry from home depot because we just moved into a fixer  upper and need some serious help! If you use a place like myregistry.com, people might also be more likely to find the home depot stuff since it will be listed alongside your stuff from Macy's or wherever and people probably wouldn't think to check home depot.

This. We also have a fixer-upper, and created a universal registry at myregistry.com and found it pretty easy to use. We put faucets, light fixtures, paint supplies, towel racks and such on ours, in addition to some other stuff from BBB. We've also put the word out with our families and MOH that we are looking to remodel our house. GL!
