Thank you post cards

I'm definatley sending out personalized bridal shower thank you cards, but was thinking of doing a pretty post card instead of a card with an envelope.  One side of the post card would have a pretty design on it and say thank you and the on the back is where I would write my thank you note along with their address.  Is it tacky to do a post card over a card with an envelope?

Re: Thank you post cards

  • I think that a traditional card and envelope would be much classier. A post card will look cheap and won't give you much room to write a nice, personal note. Is this a budget issue? You can certainly find nice TY notes somewhere like Target without spending too much.
  • I would find this really odd. You wouldn't have much room to write a thank you, and part of it will likely get marked up from the post office - not a nice way to thank your guests, in my opinion.
  • It's also not very personal if the postmaster can read your heartfelt thanks.

  • I would side-eye this big time.  Use a proper card and envelope.
  • I agree you should use a card and envelope.  Even if your postcard goes in an envelope, that sort of defeats the point of a post-card, and it doesn't give you much space to write your note.

  • I sent out STD postcards and am using postcards for my RSVP response cards, but thank you cards is where I would draw the line.  If people took the time to buy me a gift, I would like to give the impression that I took the time to appreciate it and properly thank them.  So to answer your question, yes, I think it would be very tacky to send a postcard thank you note.  Stick with tradition on this one! :)

  • I think it's a little strange, not just because it is cheap, but because it is out for everyone and their brother to see. I'm not sure my mailman and every postal worker needs to know that I have tons of expensive new goodies in the house.

  • I've received several 'thank you' post cards.  Usually they are personal and creative - most often with photos from the wedding day (which is nice because the guests usually don't have good photos).  They have never once struck me as tacky.  Just make sure to give yourself enough space to write something thoughtful.
