Maybe this is a stupid question but... have any of you had a wedding in a different state and if so, how did you get all your gifts back to your home state (did you drive back, or ship everything)? Did it cost a lot?
Backstoy: FI and I just moved to Georgia for work, but are having the wedding back in Colorado since that is where the majority of his family and my parents live. We've registered at 2 places that people can get stuff online or at the actual store. Most of our friends that have gotten married in the past few years have done this since most of us live in different states now. Whenever any of us attend a wedding where we know the bride and groom are from out of town, we buy the gift online and then have it shipped to their house so they don't have to worry about it. This is just the norm with our friends.
However, after going to FI's cousin's wedding last month I learned that most of his family doesn't have a computer and even those who do said they never would have thought to send a gift to their house (I got asked where I put my gift when I got there, lol). They had TONS of gifts, a lot of them super heavy. Luckily they drove (about a 10 hour drive) so we just loaded up their car with gifts and sent them on their way.
FI wants us to drive up there so we don't have to worry about it, but I'm not too keen on driving 2.5 days up to CO, and then another 2.5 days down (we just did that a few months ago when we moved-yuck!). Especially since we'd both have to take another 4 days off of work to do that on top of what we're taking off for the honeymoon.
I'm already iffy on the whole registering for gifts concept, so I'm almost ready to just delete our registries and be done with it, but I know that wouldn't go over well with our families. I know I have a while to worry about this, but I'm sending out STDs this week and have been thinking about it a lot.
Thanks for your help guys!
