BBB returns

Does anyone have any experience with BBB returns?  We've been using the everyday china from our registry for just over a month now.  So far, three of the plates have cracked for no apparent reason.  I know that we can exchange them for non-damaged plates, but are we able to return all of the pieces and replace them with a completely different brand of china?

ETA: Also, if anyone has recommendations on good brands to replace ours with, I'd love to hear.  The set we have is Mikasa Stone Ridge.

Re: BBB returns

  • I think BBB will let you get a different set.  We did that with flatware from Macy's and a cocktail shaker from BBB that kept rusting until we finally decided we just needed a different one.

I looked up that set at BBB, it looks like stoneware, and the one review says that it cracks like you're describing.  Do you actually want china?  We have an everyday china set from Villeroy and Boch and have been very happy with it (using it over a year now).  Not sure if BBB carries that brand.
  • Yeah, I saw the bad reviews on the website as well.  I wish we would've seen them before we registered for it.  We happened to like that set of stoneware, but we're not dead set on stoneware.  We just want dishes for every day use that are dishwasher and microwave safe.  I just browsed the everyday china on BBB's site and found Noritake and Dansk sets that I like, but I know nothing about either brand.  The Noritake got good reviews, but the Dansk had none at all.  I didn't see Villeroy and Boch when I was browsing, but I may have missed them.  Thank you for your input!

[QUOTE]lls we have the Noritake.  We haven't taken it out of the boxes yet (we're in an apartment right now) so I don't know if my opinion is really worth anything.  <strong>Seems like a good brand if the website has good reviews like you said.</strong>

<div>That's what I thought.  We'll probably go with Noritake if BBB will exchange the whole set.  I don't love it like I love our current set, but if it's durable, that works for me!</div>

  • We have Stoneware from C&B and I love love love it. The only thing is that it got discontinued really close after the wedding so I stocked up just in case. I think their patterns rotate regularly, but I didn't mind much. We didn't get actual China, so the stoneware will PROBABLY be replaced at some point in our long future.

<div>I really wish we had a C&B nearby.  I've heard nothing but good things about them and I would've loved to register there.  Does anyone know if BBB will give cash back for returns?  If they do, I wouldn't be opposed to ordering dinnerware from C&B.</div>

  • BBB will give you a store credit for returned wedding gifts, or you can put that amount towards a new set. If the new set cost more than your current set, you would just have to pay the difference.

As far as dinnerware goes, anything that is a stoneware is going to be more prone to cracking and chipping. Porcelain and bone china are stronger and will be more resistant to everyday wear and tear, so if you want something strong, I'd recommend looking at sets made out of one of those two options (bone china being the strongest of the two).

<div>This.  It's less a Mikasa thing and much more a stoneware thing.  A lot of brides register for stoneware because they hear the word "stone" and think that means strong whereas the word "china" means fragile.  It's actually the opposite.  BBB sells some plain, white bone china sets that aren't very expensive - check out fitz & floyd nevaeh (spelling?) and Mikasa antique white.  You need to pay more attention to the material than the brand.  To qualify as bone china the dishes must have a certain percent of bone ash in them and then fired twice at a very high temperature.  That makes them virtually unchippable.  You would have to drop the plate with force for it to break.  Stoneware is fired once at a relatively low temperature, and so it tends to chip.  Porcelain is fired once but at a higher temperature than stoneware. </div>

  • Thanks Cackle and hoffse.  I wasn't aware of the difference between the types of dinnerware.  To be honest, I didn't even realize these place settings were stoneware - we just liked the way they looked, so we registered for them.

We do have another set of dishes that are plain white porcelain that we use for special occasions, like holiday meals.  For our second, everyday set, we were looking for grey or graphite (plain solid dishes with no patterns) and I can't seem to find anything in those colors when I search porcelain or bone china.  I think we might just be SOL with our color preference.

BBB has a great return policy as far as I am concerned.  I have had various products over the years that broke or didn't wear well or whatever, and they take them back at current selling price without a receipt (even without the box).  Granted they give a store credit, but since they rarely have sales bc of their coupons I have always gotten back the full price, and who can't use a BBB store credit?  I love that store!

  • BBB has a wonderful return policy! Just bring them in they will return them no problem! I am getting the Noritake color wave set and I have heard wonderful things about them.
