What to get the BM who has everything?

Ok, I have my MOH & 2 BM. For all 3 I'm planning on buying their bridesmaid jewelry, making a mini "survival kit" for the day of, and either a duffle or tote bag from victoria secret to throw it all in. I also plan on putting something more personal to them in there as well and was going to look at it like shopping for their birthday. The problem with this, is what to get for the girl who has practically everything?

She has very expensive tastes, plenty of coach accessories, loves wine but has too many wine glasses. I've already given her spa day gift certificates so I don't feel it's all that special to do it again. Any ideas?

Re: What to get the BM who has everything?

  • What about a several month subscription to a wine of the month club?  Do you have an outlet mall by you?  Maybe something from Coach or Kate Spade outlet (bracelet, key chain, wristlet, etc.).  I don't know if she likes cosmetics, but you can give Birchbox as a gift for however many months you want, which is kind of fun.
  • Gift card to a local wine store? Or even just a bottle of wine she likes?
  • I love the birchbox idea!
  • Please don't get each a "day of survival kit." First, it's not necessary for each girl to have her own. I brought a bunch of things I thought we might need and shared with everybody. Plus, those usually include things like needle and thread, band-aids and tampons. Would you like to unwrap tampons on Christmas morning as a gift? Probably not. Those items are not gifts to people. Really, anything they use for your wedding day is not a gift.

I would make their entire gift something personal to each one of them. That's what a gift truly is.

Relax.  She's doing the jewelry and "survival kit" on top of a personal gift.  I think the survival kit is potentially a waste of money, depending on what's inlcuded, but if OP wants to make up a bag of stuff for her friends and give them everything in a tote bag, who cares?

Well I would care if I got a box of tampons, band aids, and dental floss as a gift from a friend who is supposed to know me very well and care about me. Do you normally give your friends things like that for birthdays, Christmas, etc?

And yes, I know many people still give wedding jewelry as gifts, even though it's a gift for the wedding, which is why I didn't even mention it. If she wants to give the wedding jewelry AND something personal, fine. But I would like to be told I'm going to be wasting my money before I do, so I would like to let her know I think the day-of kits will be a waste of money and not necessarily a nice gift. If she needs those emergency items, there's no reason she can't just buy them herself and share with the girls.

  • I suppose I don't see it as a waste of money because everything that would be in those kits can be found at a dollar store. And tampons is not on that list, lady products such as that are going to be stocked in the ladies room in cute baskets. Tampons can be given as a gift - ever been to a white elephant party? hehe Tongue Out

I'm loving the Birchbox idea! I may end up doing that for all my ladies because they're all big cosmetic fans.
  • With Birchbox, you need to get on the waiting list in advance--you won't be able to just buy a gift subscription when you want it (not sure if you're familiar with it, but I wasn't when I went to buy gift subscriptions).  Once you get the email that you're off the waiting list, you can buy multiple gift subscriptions (well, I bought 2, not sure if there's a limit) and have them sent whenever you want in the future.  If you are crunched for time, contact their customer service, though, and see if they can bump you ahead to get them as gifts.

Well, my mom gave me a "bridal survival kit" (a prepackaged one, not one that she put together herself) along with some other stuff, I guess "real gifts."  I didn't get offended, and although I don't think I used it day-of (we remembered our wedding bands so we didn't need the plastic ones in the kit!), I have taken it apart and stashed stuff in my purse, travel bags, etc.  It was cute enough, and I think she enjoyed getting it since it was "bridal."

But that was for YOUR wedding. It's not the same as being given those supplies to use at somebody else's wedding. I'm just not seeing this as the same thing at all.

Either way, it's not a huge deal. The OP asked for advice and I told her I think it is a waste of money to get them as gifts. I bought that stuff too from the Dollar Store and just put it in a bag and told my BMs "Grab and use what you need." Period. End of story. They still got to use those items without wrapping it up and presenting it as a gift.  I also would not personally enjoy getting a bag of supplies to use for somebody else's wedding.

<div>Oh, good to know. I wont be needing them until May, but if you can purchase them and not have them sent until a later date that works out just fine. Thank you for the tip!</div>
  • I feel ilke I need to go back and highlight what I wrote... I'm making a survival kit more as a gag really - and because, well, you never know. But I'm getting the girls more personal things too, it's NOT just the survival kit but thank you for your input.
