Gifts for Parents

So I think I've finally determined what gifts I'm going to give to my parents--I'm getting my Mom a spa package with a Swedish massage and pedicure. I'm thinking about getting my Dad either concert tickets (hopefully Zac Brown Band!) or a few bottles of really good wine and some new wine glasses. So here's my question--when do you typically give these gifts to the parents? I was thinking about the rehearsal dinner but I don't know if that's actually appropriate or not. I know the day of is going to be so hectic that there won't really be time for it and we're leaving for our honeymoon the morning after. I'd like to do it at some time when it's just the 3 of us but who knows when that will be! What are you all planning to do?

Re: Gifts for Parents

  • Traditionally you give them to them during the rehearsal dinner. If you want to do it privately maybe you could do it the night before but after the dinner when you are at home. (If you plan to stay with them the night before your wedding)

  • We plan on giving all gifts at the RD -- seeing as the only people will be our parents, WP (and their SOs), and our pastor (and his wife) so they'll all be getting gifts anyway.

  • We're going to give gifts the day before, but not at the RD.  We don't want anyone to feel like it's a competition.

We're having a painting done for my parents (a lady at our church is a great painter), but FI wants to get his mom a card.  Not even a handwritten letter, but a card.  His mom, his choice.  They don't have the greatest relationship.

So yeah, it would look weird to give my parents a painting and his mom something from Hallmark, so we're going to do them privately.
