Second Weddings

Wedding recap

Hi girls - taking a moment to recap my own personal do's and don'ts list...

The wedding was gorgeous. The weather was perfect and the night was so much fun. I was a nervous wreck before it though. Sheesh!

Things to take note of:

- People actually will notice the cute things you did... and will not even be aware of the things you meant to do and didn't. So let those go.

- Make sure you have a vase of water for your bouquet waiting.

- Give your photographer a list of the meaningful things at the event that you want captured... like my dad's framed photo, the conch shell my best friend gave me, etc.

- We had a hotel room for the wedding night... I should have had someone stash food/drinks in our room for us! We were too wrapped up to think of it. Believe me when I tell you that you won't get enough time to really eat your dinner at your reception. I didn't mind/notice at the time, we just partied with champagne... until we were back at the room and starving! I literally counted down the minutes till we could order room service at 6am.

- It takes like 30 minutes to get all the pins out of your hair. Longer if your DH gets in the shower with you to help. ;-)  Even after that, you will look a little like Bob Marley if you don't bring conditioner and/or a pick.

- When you pack your overnight bag, don't forget your dress bag (unless you changed clothes before hand).

- If your dress is complex to get on, it will be complex to take off. Mine wasn't... thank God. We would have been too loopy to handle it at the end of the night! If it's complex, go right now and buy a dress to change into at the reception where you have girlfriends handy to help!

- There are absolutely no words to describe the way you will feel when you say your vows to each other. Oh my gosh. I think it's all the more meaningful THIS time, after having failed at this marriage thing before. I really just can't tell you how deeply I felt that moment. I hope you do too. It was stunning.

Above all else, allow yourself the opportunity to soak in the moments. They are truly beautiful moments.

Oh, I'm getting goosebumps!!  Congratulations Adelphi.  I am very happy for you -- laughing a little though, thinking of brides with Bob Marley hair, ravenously hungry and unable to get out of their dresses!!  **snort**

Your advice sounds great.  Thanks for hopping back on here so quickly to share your wisdom with us.  :)

I agree, I got goosebumps too! Sounds like you had a fun time, and thanks for the suggestions. I too LMAO at the mental pics you provided of the night at the hotel.

I actually do have a dress to change into for the reception. While reading your list I know how important it will be to get myself a "day of" coordinator to manage all the "stuff" I'll be too frazzled or overwhelmed to remember.

Enjoy married life. You deserve it (we all do).

Congratulations and thanks for the tips!!!

It sounds like it was lovely!!

I will have to remember to have the photographer take a picture of my Dad's framed picture. Our caterer is known for packing a "to go" box for the bride and groom so that will be one less thing to think about.  We're coming home after the reception since we won't be going on a honeymoon until after the DSD turns 18.

I totally understand how the vows felt - just in going over parts of the vows we want to share we get all choked up now... so on our day I suspect there will be tears.

This gave me goosebumps and almost made me cry!  I hope to feel the same way when we say our vows one month from tomorrow.. I just feel so blessed and lucky to have been given this second chance at love, I have a feeling it's going to be an overwhelming moment.

Congratulations!  Now let's see pictures! :)

Thank you for sharing your advice.  Have to say the picture you paint of a bride with Bob Marley hair and not being able to get out of the dress is hilarious.

Adelphi, you crack me up.  You know I'll be thinking of that on the way to the hotel :)  I am so happy for you that your dreams came true and as we've said before, this time around we truely get it.  Thank God.

I am so looking forward to having that same feeling and experience. I get so emotional when I think about it.  Age definitely has it's advantages..

I'm getting down to the wire myself and reading your post is getting me more excited if that's possible.

    Congratulations, you deserve the best!
