Re: Bridal shower

  • If for whatever reason you don't want to have the big huge shower (whether it would be your second shower, or because you don't need a thing), I was just reading a wedding planning book that had some great suggestions for showers that aren't as traditional as the big ladies only party with tea sandwiches and a gargantuan table of gifts.  These are the ones that I thought might suite you if you are concerned about people thinking it's a no-no to have a second shower (and, if your family or social group lives and dies by Emily Post, you may want to only invite the closest family and friends on both sides)

    1.  Around-The-Clock-Shower:  each guest is given a time of the day, and asked to bring a gift that corresponds with that time (perhaps a new toaster for 9am and a nightie for 11pm)
    2. Lingerie Shower: probably only appropriate for friends
    3.  Recipe Shower (my personal favorite):  each guests brings a favorite recipe and the key kitchen tools and nonperishables needed to make it
    4.  Home Improvement shower:  Tools, etc.
    5.  Holiday Shower:  Great for the person who has a fully stocked kitchen- everyone is given a holiday and chooses a gift to correspond with that holiday
    6.  Date night shower:  Guests gift you a pre-planned date night
