Us old timers...

For those of us on the boards a while back, some may recall the drama of a woman with a son who she was convinced that she could turn "straight."   In case she's lurking, she should read this:http://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/08/05/gay.to.straight/index.htmlJust accept your son, before he does something to hurt himself.

Shoot, Donna, you should know me by now.  Hardly anything surprises me anymore.  But then again, I was chasing hookers and drug dealers for years as an investigator, so there you go.  I'm jaded now.  :-P

Stacy - did you carry a gun?  Did you catch the brouhaha about the woman one of  the PA boards who got slammed by her local for posting in a post about the shooting in a gym in PA because she had a sig pic of herself at a shooting range. ?  She ended up banned, although probably because she c & p'd the post, but there was speculation it was because she had a gun photo in her sig.  Silly and reactionary.  ~Donna

No, we weren't allowed to carry them, and they were illegal in DC anyway, unless you were a street patrolman.  And this was when the "dirty dozen" were part of the street patrol.  Those were the DC cops that went through training, etc., and then they found out they were convicted felons!   I had a 9 to the back of my head once, and guy who held a knife to my throat.  If my life wasn't threatened once a week I was wondering what I was doing wrong.  Ah, the life of public health investigator.  The good ole' days.

And you know, if anyone there had a gun, it might have saved a few injuries, maybe lives if they'd taken him out before he took himself out.  I carry regularly now.  Everywhere except work, which is illegal for me since I go onto federal property.

I was a drug dealing, gun carrying hooker when I first met Stacy, so, nothing she says or does surprises me!

You all are funny.  I wasn't around when all that happened, but I've seen it mentioned a few times on here.  I feel so sorry for the son.

Yeah, I guess that's the first thing that really turned me off the Christian churches, and that was when I was a teen!  And there's more and more scientific evidence that this is not a "choice."  Heck, even a couple of the very conservative talk-show hosts (I can't remember if it's Boortz or Limbaugh) even are repeating the science, and agree with it! Interestingly, one of the Pagan magazines that I get relayed a story of gentleman A who was out on a date with gentleman B, and when A found out B was a Pagan, he got up and left the dinner table.  So, I guess being a Pagan is even worse than being gay.  :-)

It's funny, because most of the Pagans I know act more like I think Christians are supposed to act, love EVERYONE-no exceptions, won't talk smack about the other religions, etc.  It's one of the things I truly love about the community.

It's funny, because I'm bi, and have had questions about why I didn't just "choose to be straight."  My response is that you can't choose whom you will fall in love with.  Yes, I'm capable of falling in love with a man (and was married to one for nearly two decades).  But love doesn't come along every day, and when I found someone I loved and wanted to marry, I wasn't going to break up with her on the off chance I might later be able to find a man that I'd also love and want to marry.

I remember her, she was a little off even before she told us that.
