Escort Card Question

So we have received quite a few RSVPs so far from single people we invited with guests.  A few people just wrote "Mr. John Doe and guest" on the response, and one of the GM wrote his name and "Jen N."  (I was like wtf? when I saw it, but FI knew who he meant) So my question is, and I believe I'm overthinking this, but on the escort cards are you just writing "Mr. John Doe and guest" or are you going to make an effort to find out the name of the guest? I'm probably going with the first part but am curious to see what other people are doing. Thanks!!

I'm doing each person's name at their place setting so I need to know every person's name. I'm going to make an effort to find out the "Guest" names. 

I think for escort card purposes it's totally ok to just put "and Guest" though because you're putting both names on one escort card, right?

I'm going to try and find out the "and guest" for all of my respondant's that don't put a name.  I'd like to have separate cards for each person, I am going to try and color code them for the waiters and waitresses so it would be nice to have people's names.

Are you doing a plated meal & you need to know what each person is eating??  If yes, then you should definitely find out the name of the guest...however, I've been to two weddings where it was LM & guest...

Thanks for the feedback! We are just doing escort cards and 1 per couple. I guess I was expecting people to write in the name of their guest on the response card, b/c I thought that was the norm? LM, we are having a sit down dinner but the wait staff will take the guests' orders at the table, so we don't need to know names for that.

I would definitely find out who the "guests" are, and not just for the escort cards. If someone is coming to my wedding, I want to know who they are, lol. It will come in handy to know who they are when you meet them, when you write thank you's, etc...

I'm going to make an effort to get the "guest" names.  Pretty much what Bmore said and I'd like to include their names on the escort cards, too.

There's not many people on my guest list that I don't know who they're bringing, so it's probably not going to be a huge effort on our part.  Had it been a much longer list, it may be a different story.
