Second Weddings

Are my boys too young to give me away?

Hi!  I'm brand new here.  Been engaged for a year and a half now and looking forward to a March 2010 wedding.Q: My sons will be 10 and 7 in January.  Are they too young to walk me down the aisle? I'd like for them to be part of the wedding somehow but not sure if this is the right way.  My oldest son offered to play the piano at the ceremony.  He's extremely talented (been playing since he was 3 and has performed at the Kennedy Center) but I'm not sure I want him in the back of the room playing while I walk in and out.  Any suggestions will be much appreciated!

I think if they are comfortable with walking you down the aisle, go for it.  My youngest son, 9, is going to be my ring bearer and my oldest, 12, is walking me down the aisle.  I think it makes it very personal and meaningful to include them this way. If that is what you want then do it! If they want to have fun with it. Its your famlies that are becoming one family unit. Just make sure the kids understand atleast the younger on that giving you away isn't what he is actually doing. That might freak him out a bit that he is giving mommy away.

Thank you all so much for your input.  I love the idea of having my youngest son be the ring bearer.  I think he will love it!  This is a wonderful site.  Glad I joined!

I think that would be great! I'm planning on just my daughter and I walking down the aisle. My dad walked me down the first time and "gave me away". And I like the tradition, but I feel like it is more appropriate for me and my dd to walk down together. We've been through a lot together! Now, I still have to break the news to my dad, lol!

My sons will be 12 and 10 when they walk me down the aisle. I'd don't see it as them 'giving me away', as much as it's symbolic of my fiance entering into the family as a whole unit.
