dj help!

so the only thing i don't have booked is the dj.... we are having a small 50 person reception that last 3.5 hours total from 1:30-5pm. of that time, the guest will be 10-15 min. late (coming from the church) and we will be at least 30-40 late to the reception. then we are having a sit down plated meal. then i guess we will cut the cake and then have the first dance followed by open dancing. ... so, we are seriously debating between ipod/laptop music or a dj. i'd perfer a dj, and i don't feel like his job would be very hard. it is not an all nighter party crowd of 200 that his has to get going. just maybe annouce us coming in, annouce we are cutting the cake and annouce our first dance and the money dance. i am wanting to pay $250-300, but the dj's are all quoting me $600, which by most is the same price even if i did have a longer reception and was at night, etc. i did find only one for $525. i'm sort of freaking out. does ANYONE know of anyone that would do it for $250-300? mostly all they'd need is a music player and to play the songs. i'm not wanting a huge production or anything. one of my co-workers thought his music director from church would do it, but he hasn't called me back... i feel musically cursed!

if not, does anyone have any suggestions on me doing the ipod/laptop thing? the country club does have a sound system that we can hook into, but who would do the announcing? it is such a small group and 5 are little kids!

Try Brent with inmotiondj... we're going to use him.  He is only $440 for a four hour reception, but since yours is earlier, he may be willing to work a deal.. he DJs as his hobby, so he's generally pretty flexible and friendly!

The DJ I usually recommend is Matt with djsofdallas.com   If you call or e-mail him and explain your situation I bet he would be willing to work with you or know someone who can help. He has been able to help out every one of my sorority sisters with sound, lighting, and dj needs. Great guy to deal with!

I would say if you don't get the price you want see what sound the hotel offers and ask one of your friends at the wedding to man the laptop/ipod for you. Then he/she will have a job in the wedding and you save $$$.

i just feel really bad asking someone to do it, since the wedding is so small anyone and includes only our family and immediate friends.... should i offer to pay someone, outside of those already coming to man the laptop?

You could try searching on Craigslist and emailing some of those offers.... maybe a college student would do it for cheaper... but I'm really weary of Craiglist.
