Waxing

First and foremost it is important to state that I have never had anything waxed.  However, I will be honeymooning on the beach for four days so it would be really nice to not have to worry about packing a razor.  Does anyone have any recommendations about getting waxed for the first time or at least of a budget friendly place to go get it done???

Thanks for any help you can give!

Nope.  I cannot think of a single instance in which I would ever do it again.

No, I'm glad I did it.  But I thought it would last longer, honestly.  And I don't care what the girls on the Beauty Board say--it HURTS.  Just the thought of it gives me goosebumps.

Ouch.  I thought about doing it for my budoir pics...but maybe not...

ETA: Whoa - let me add that I will not be completely exposed in my b-pics, just didn't want any red razor burn showing.  Wow.  TMI.  Sorry.

    **butting in**

I had an appointment for one before my wedding but I cancelled it.  My maid of honor had it done and it apparently can cause ingrown hairs if you don't keep doing it, or exfoliate properly.  Something like that.

I didn't want to take the chance.

I have never done it, so I wouldn't know the level of pain but I can just imagine... so just wanted to say to Lacey.. it's not super necessary unless if you want to go bottomless in your pics or maybe wear something totally sheer...

Hmm... plus, I'm allergic to everything under the sun.  When I wax my eyebrows I get red irritated bumps for like 2-3 days.  I would hate for that to happen.

    For about 2 seconds.

Oh Lacey.. I am sorry if that came out wrong.. I wasn't saying that you would be completely exposed.. although I have seen some pics on the local blogs that have been like that.. I was just trying to be re-assuring that you don't need to get the waxing. :)

Ha - okay.  Not showing it all - just a little.  :)  Yes, thank you.  I feel better now knowing that I don't have to risk pain and discomfort for a photo shoot.

I have done them, but I would recommend that you find a place that does sugaring. They basically take a big ball of melted sugar and roll it around to get the hairs. It's a lot less painful than waxing because it doesn't take off a layer of skin with the hair! I had no problem after the sugaring, but I was red & raw feeling for a couple of days after the waxing.

<div>I'm doing the laser too and holy crap it hurts 100 times worse than waxing (It was described to me it feels like a rubber band popping.  I think not)... I used to get waxed and it was a walk in the park compared to the laser hair removal...</div>

i did sugaring for a bikini wax and i didn't think it hurt too bad (and it was my first and only time thus far) i plan on using them once the wedding rolls around. people that go to her swear by her because it's not that painful and that's why i decided to try them out. i didn't regret it!

Sorry... didn't mean to bring on anxiety... I really like the results though.
FWIW... it gets better (less painful) every time and there are 2 different lasers that are used depending on your skin type.  Apparently my skin type can technically handle a high amount of laser?  I'm just going to suck it up to 'no pain no gain'.  BTW, I wish I could get those deals... Houston laser deals are twice as much and not as often :(

So I have never had a brazillian, but I did get an extended wax before the wedding.
I went to The Beauty of Waxing - 214.960.6686 Erica is the owner and it is a private shop in the Salon Republic (Preston & Beltline

While the bikini wax was not pleasant, it was not horrible painful.  I've gone back since, and it is so much better than shaving.  Erica is great, so friendly, and will do whatever to make you more confortable.  She will also give you tips so that you do not get ingrown hairs (ie, no hot baths/water for 24 hours).  I haven't had any issues.

I have had many issues getting my eyebrows waxed.  However, after my brothers FI went to cosmetic school, she was certified to do waxing (she is a hairdresser).  I found out so many things wrong with this:

    1. She had ONE lesson on waxing while in cosmetic school
    2. They do not test you on your ability to wax when you get your license
    3. the salon she trained for HAIR did no training for waxing, yet still let her perform eyebrow waxes.

Try someone who is a professional and focuses on waxing.  Your experience may be quite different.
