What's new girls?

Quiet around here lately. What's the skinny on the weekend? I gots nuttin' except we're supposed to have some wonky weather later today in Chicago so I have to get up to the northern 'burbs in a little while to meet son.

Speaking of weddings.....(were we?) H and I are going to a reception on NYE. We're old enough now that we're attending our friend's children's weddings!

In other news - I'm trying to grow my hair out and it's in that adolescent awkward stage of growth. <sigh /> Well, I'm going to use a headband - I don't care if I'm too old for one. Next will be barrettes. I'm going to get thru this phase no matter what!

Marrin, we'll have the same wonky weather later tonight into tomorrow. I know, it's the midwest and almost winter, but the last few years of global warming spoiled me.

All the Knot boards have been dead really. My month board and local board as well. I think it's that holiday time of year that just does that.

We are hosting my FMIL 80th b-day party at my house on the 23rd. It was just decided this past week, and this weekend and next will be spent cleaning, and finishing the decorating. It's really an honor, because she's such a great lady. She has 3 other adult sons, all will be in town, in her HOUSE for the holidays. She finds a way to house all the kids, daughters-in-law and grandkids in her house at Xmas and during the year when they come in from out of town. She hosts every holiday, so it's nice that they are all driving over here, about 40 miles, so I can entertain all of them! I love to entertain, but being an only child I never get the chance except for small holiday parties and special occasions like my kids HS graduations, etc. I'm really looking forward to it. Thankfully I have a fiance who LOVES to clean, and he'll be here this weekend helping out. He reminded me we must find "a place" for the boxes of DIY wedding crap in the family room. I think we'll be putting it in my 2 car garage, as there's enough stuff in there now that only my car fits! He's a real find in this regard.

Anyone else slowing down on the mega-decorating for the holidays? I used to put up 2 trees (one in the living room next to my work desk, the other, a bigger one in the family room where we placed all the gifts). I just can't get up the energy to do all this, plus decorate both mantles, any longer. I've found this year I want to simplify a bit. I am NOT Martha Stewart, LOL, and don't have a crew to help. I just did the smaller tree in the living room, the living room mantle, and we've had a silk ficus tree in the family room for years with lights on it for ambiance. Well, that is now the family room Xmas tree! I still have to do the family room mantle, and the lighted garland on the bannister, and put a few things in the other rooms to round out the house, but that's it.

Also not doing rolled out sugar cookies this year, because it was always about the fun of doing them, but there's only my 16 y/o at home now, and she's moved on. My Mom brings a humungous tray of various cookies each year that SHE bakes, and that's enough.

I ordered my Xmas dinner 5 lb prime rib roast yesterday from a local butcher. Going to try this, I've never ordered something in advance, seems like a new concept: get what you want instead of finding what the grocery store has available. Some things do come later in life.

RE: your hair Marrin: I've been keeping mine longer for the wedding for the past year or so. Used to be pretty short, but you can see in the profile pic that it's longer.........I want a french twist for the wedding, then I'll do the (gasp!) thing all hubbies dread, and cut my hair shorter again. It's been a nice change, since I work at home I can pull it back in a pony tail and not worry how it looks.

What else is everyone up to?

I'm blah on the Christmas decorating this year Sue. Usually we are in FL and H's son is also gone to his mothers for the Christmas hols so we don't decorate very much. This year we're home and I just don't have the motivation and it doesn't help that T's not big on Christmas at all. At least his son is attempting by looking through boxes in the basement.

Yay for MiL and b-days! I have 3 patients in their early 90's and they are as spry and mentally alert as someone half their ages. Incredible! My mom is 78 and she's also in very good health and very active. She's the one that fell down Macy's escalators 2 weeks before my wedding. She tumbled head over heels and not one broken anything! I think these older models were just made better KWIM?

It HAS been quiet recently, I agree.

Yesterday was busy, busy. My son (17, high school senior) had his fall violin recital. It was great. From there, he and I went to a Tae Kwon Do tournament and were judges. The tournament was fun, but we didn't get to be in the same ring at all, bummer! FI met us there at the end and then all 3 of us went to a family Christmas sing-a-long. That was great. Most of my cousins (on mom's side of the family) were there. I just wish I'd had more rest ahead of time. I was the party pooper ... gave out and left @ 10.

My poor son is sick as a dog today. It's been coming on for a couple of days. This stupid cold front that hung over the area for the better part of two weeks wore him out. So, I've been playing nurse for the better part of the evening. And, on that note, I need to get back into his room and take his temp. A mother's work is never done, eh?

And ... doggone it, my Redskins lost again today. Ugh!

Oh, and Christmas decorations ... hmmm. As of last weekend, I have a wreath on the front door. Nothing else. I usually wait until the weekend before Christmas to buy a tree (we used to wait until Christmas Eve when I was a kid!), so I imagine that FI, my son and I will get a tree next Sunday.

    More later ... duty calls.

I agree also...SO SLOW on these boards lately......I for one, definetly check them from time to time, I just love them!!!

Well, finally got one of my tree's decorated last night, ALONE, was a trick.....My FI works nights and we had such a busy weekend that although we got it up and looking good, it stood naked for three days...so last night, i said to myself, let me just go ahead and do this by myself, otherwise we are looking at a naked tree until thusday when he is home again.....So me, 8 light strands, a 10ft tree and laddrs.....but then the lightbulb ibn the head went off and out of the corner of my eye i saw the poker for the fireplace....IT works perfect for christmas lights !!! NO ladders needed !!!! I not only did the lights, i did the garland, the beads and then all the boxes of ornaments...with a few tears n between......unpacking ornaments of my moms (she passed 8 yrs ago) pics of the boys when they were young...(ornaments that hold pictures) so may wonderful memories...
I actually loved doing the tree myself...I took my time, put all my fav ornaments in the front, and all the "sport" ornaments are in the back LOL.....
Tonite I tackle the tree in our room, and set up the rest of the mini pre lit trees in the other rooms and the rest of the decorations.......I am toning it down a bit since the house is for sale...I dont want to scare off (please) a potential buyer...lol

I had my "trial" hair doo the other day and it came out perfect. I decided on cascading curls in the back , kinda up on sides and wisps coming down in the front...I have pics, but I am at work and of course they are at home.....if anyone wants to see, just ask, I will post them....if you are looking for ideas.....

I mailed my invitations last week...that was super exciting and even rcvd a few back already....so far only 2 NO's.....i need 36...lol

I generally do Christmas dinner, but this year...wow...CHANGES....
Christmas eve we are going to his parents house....christmas dinner we are spending at his Aunts house....so now I am doing christmas brunch inbetween all the others.....i have not decided on a menu as of yet and I am working the next two weeks with only sunday off, so this should be quite intetresting !!!! It is kinda werird but i brought his family back together again, and now everyone wants to entertain and invite everyone....so, since i am to blame for this miracle, I refuse to complain.......i will just need a miracle !!!

My eldest son, moved into his own apartment ....he was sharing a house.....well after he moved in and after he signed his lease, found out he could not keep his dog with him......there was a major mis understanding....long story short...I am the new owner of KIMBO.......1/2 boxer, 1/2 pit.......he is an awsome dog, i adore him, but i already have three dogs and they are 1 papillion and 2 long hair chihuahuas....(dont ask me why i have so many, an absolute week moment in my life) so, kimbo a puppy (7 mos) wants to play and literally swats my poor lil babies across the floor...it is kinda funny, but no...lol So we are now trying to train kimbo to be nicer to the lil ones when he plays ...he is like...really, seriously!

well, 2 mos from today is my wedding, I am super over the top excited.....going by sooo fast.....

Ok, i think i have bored everyone enough...

    xoxo

Lisa - did your Redskins embarass themselves as badly as my Bears did? Honest to God, it was like they were wearing pink tutus out there. :(

Debi - my son ended up losing his home and had to move back to the city to his dad's building which meant giving up his menagerie. He had a French Mastiff and two Dogo Argentinos - no teeny tiny pups for him. Couldn't afford to feed himself at the end, but the dogs all ate Sci Diet. Anyway, one of the Dogos is deaf and she was a little hard to place, but a high school friend on Facebook ended up taking her. He does Bully Breed rescues and he and his wife have the patience for the dog. A good friend of mine took the mastiff. And my bestie took the other Dogo. He was absolutely heartbroken over the breakup of his "family" but is happy that they are in homes where he can at least visit. I'm sure your son is relieved Kimbo is with you. I'd take 'em all if it were just me, but while Terry loves dogs, he at least realizes that right now we don't have the lifestyle for one.

I didn't see the Chicago game, but the Redskins played so badly that one of our best players ended up close to tears in the locker room after the game. Good Lord, our punter, holding for the kicker for the PAT, couldn't set the ball after the snap. We suck! It WAS mighty embarrassing.

I don't know who thought Mike Shanahan would be the solution to our problems, but he certainly has not proven to be. Right now, we're 5 - 8. I was hoping for an 8 - 8 season, but that's not even realistic now. We'll be lucky to come out of it at 6 - 10, which is better than last season's 4 - 12 ... but not much. *sigh*

I think we watched some of the Redskins game while waiting for the Bears to come on. Were the Redskins a noon game? I kind of remember T and friends making comments about punter or puntee...........

Sorry Lisa, my Lions beat your Bears. It was only our 3rd victory of the year, so please be kind....... an improvement over last year's 2-14.......we've sucked for 50 years, almost my entire life.

Debi, you have more energy than I do! And I LOVE the idea of using the fireplace poker to place lights up high! Never would have thought of that one.

I do love Xmas so much............spent $278 at the grocery store tonight, enough food and "special items" for the holidays to cover me for 2 weeks though. Put several bags of food in the basement that don't fit in the pantry and I won't need until next week. Thank God I kept the full freezer from my ex's parents, cuz it's now full!

As for inheriting animals, one of my daughter's friend's grandmas found a cat in a woodpile about a month ago, and she couldn't keep it because of the other animals she had. So we now have a "rescue cat"......about a year old according to the vet, white & gray with small patches of tan. A male we will get fixed soon. At times when he whines he reminds me of the cat in "Shrek", when he's holding his hat in his paws, and his eyes are welling up. I swear sometimes when he whines it sounds like he's saying "Mama", LOL.

Yup ... that was the game. The kicker missed two gimme field goals -- one a 20 yarder. Ugh! Then there was the fiasco in the last 8 seconds, when the punter -- as holder -- flubbed the hold for a point-after which could have tied the game and taken it into overtime. We beat ourselves. Again. I suspect we'll have a new kicker by Thursday. Hope. Pray. Something.
