Honeymoon

Once family and friends keep asking where we are registered because they want to give us a wedding gift anyways - and honestly we don't need anything because we have them all doubled - we thought about a honeymoon registry that could serve both purpose: they get a way to give us a present and we get some financial help towards our honeymoon once the currency in Europe (where we are going to) is higher than the US dollar. Any thoughts?

Honeymoon registeries are frowned upon by some in this group, but that said we are registered with Honeyfund, the FI did it without much of my input.  It actually has been helpful because one of the groomsmen didn't want to get us one of the few things that is on our registry.  He and his wife wanted to pay for an experience for us on our honeymoon. So in that way it's helpful.

Both of our registeries are on a request basis, if you ask we will tell you.

Question? Isn't the Euro always higher than the US dollar?

Yes loriandedwid, the Euro has been always higher than the US dollars - what I like once I am Italian, but FI complains every time that we have to go there and he thinks that everything is very expense.

MikesAngie, the upon request basis will be in place for our registry as well and it's a great idea!

I don't love honeymoon registries, but more for the reason that they take a portion of the giver's gift for their profit margin.
I don't buy gift cards that you pay a service fee for, either.

I've gotten over the hullaballoo about registering for honeymoon help.

My DH's two brothers gave us a shipboard credit for our honeymoon, and it was awesome.  ~Donna

Honeyfund doesn't take any of the gift at all - they have advertisers so that is where they get their funding.  Which is why the FI went with them he did a lot of research before hand.

I understand your point RetreatBride, and even agree to some point, but I doubt it would be our case once we use to travel abroad at least three to four times per year.
I will take a look at the Honeyfund because i wouldn't like to be in a site that will retain any of the gift given.

I think honeymoon registries are the same as asking for cash, and that is rude.

  • We got about $700 in gifts from our Honeymoon registry. We announced it in our "Save the Dates". Our friends seemed to like the idea and we had some people give the printouts from the money they gave in the registry in our wedding cards.
