Trying to get more conversation going: Favorite meal/recipe?

I've been cooking today! It's not something I get to do often anymore because of working so much and taking care of DH, but i'm happy to do it when I get the chance. Tonight I made homemade wings, both BBQ and buffalo style, and they turned out great. Now it's 1:15am and I'm making banana bread (even though I have to go to work in 8 hours and should probably be going to bed, lol). So it got me thinking, what is everyone's favorite recipe to make? Or, if you're the kind who can't stand cooking or can't boil water, what's your favorite meal to eat? :) Mine is my homemade lasagna recipe, taught to me by my mother from when she worked in an italian restaurant. It was the recipe that DH claims made him certain he would marry me after just one bite. ;)

OH!  Engagement Lasagne!  (You've heard of engagement chicken?)  I love making stir fry.  The secret is to use a pinch of ginger, and tamari sauce, which is a really good soy sauce, and then hoison sauce.  Yummy.

I also love making fried chicken (I have to, I live in the South, it's one of the rules), but I don't do it often because of the fat content.  I always use skinless, boneless chicken breasts, because I hate the skin, and that's where a lot of the fat is.  Just dredge your chicken in flour after soaking in buttermilk overnight.

Oh!  And wilted lettuce salad!  YUMMMMY  Bacon!

I actually do love to cook, I just don't have enough time.  I grind my own flour and make my own bread, although I haven't done a lot of it this summer, due to the heat.  I make my own pizza dough, too, and that's a great "couples" preparation, you both make your own pizzas.  I guess it could be good for kids, too, although you might have to help the younger ones roll out the dough--just let them do the toppings they want.

I could go on for days.  Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday ever.

I warned my FI that I can't cook (or really do anything domestic), but he says he likes my cooking, though baking is still out.  I actually enjoy cooking for someone again who appreciates it.  I am making jumbalaya tonight which he has praised in the past.  I have been modifying several of my recipes for him since there are some ingredients he doesn't like.

    What's engagement chicken??

I love to make chicken & dumplings, and a recipe from a lady in Maine for creamed chicken & biscuits...it's really good.
I also really like making biscuits & gravy, and pumpkin pancakes during the fall!

Engagement chicken is a recipe that is famed because after a woman serves it, the gentleman asks her to marry him.  It works a lot.  Wish I'd known about it when Todd and I were still dating; that might have increased his speed from a snail's pace.

I make a kick-a$$ chili in the fall and winter.  Basically I just put everything in the crockpot and let it simmer.  When finished I ladle it out and add crushed tortilla chips and cheese to the top.

I also make taco salad in the summertime.  Chop up your taco fixings like the tomato lettuce etc.  Cook up the ground turkey or beef and let cool; drain.  Put everything together in a large bowl.  Add cheese and add in Western Dressing.  Mix together and put in fridge.  When ready to serve, take tortilla chips and break into pieces and mix together.

Here's a super easy appetizer that never fails to please:

1 can all white crab meat - drained
1 brick of softened cream cheese
1 bottle high quality cocktail sauce

Mix the crab meat with the cocktail sauce and pour over the cream cheese.  Serve with Triscuits.

Debbie, IMO, baking is easier than cooking, lol.  Just follow the recipe precisely and you'll be fine.  Nothing better than homemade chocolate chip cookies (I use shortening instead of butter though) or a plate of brownies.  There's really no room for error as baking depends on following the directions!  Just remember to reduce your oven temp by 25 degrees if you're baking in a glass dish...When brownies or cakes pull away from the sides and/or a toothpick stuck in the center comes out clean, it's done!

Make your own pizza night is a huge hit in this house...My kids have been helping make their own pizzas since they were old enough to see over the top of the counter.

I love to cook and bake. :)  Tonight we're trying homemade steamed pork dumplings.

I don't know that I could pick one favorite thing to cook...I love risotto, but I also love anything breakfasty...

I just got a new pizza stone; can't wait to have homemade pizza night.

I guess it is the precision required in baking - measurements, time, cooking temperature and a non-tempramental oven, that does me in.
