XP: The most amazing, wonderful, fantastic (NWR) news!!! (quick update)

As y'all know, DH has been sick with his pulmonary valve not working correctly. The word on the street immediately after his cath in early October, was that DH was PROBABLY not eligible for a transcatheter valve that can be put in with minimal invasion, and that he would have to have open heart surgery to fix the problems. This was because DH has so much damage to his main veins and arteries, and his vascular system is wonky anyway, so they didn't think they could find an entry point.

Well, about 2 weeks after DH had his cath, his cardiologist called and said he had consulted with the specialist who does this transcatheter valve, and the specialist was not entirely convinced that they couldn't find an entry point. So he sent DH to have an MRI venogram done, to get a 3D model of his vascular system and figure out if there was an entry point for this valve after all.

After the MRI, DH's cardiologist was on vacation until the 1st of November, and so he was totally swamped and unable to talk to the specialist again until today. The specialist said he has found an entry point, so the results are that DH IS eligible for the transcatheter valve replacement!! He won't need open heart surgery yet to correct the problems he's having!! I'm so unbelievably happy I could just dance and scream at the top of my lungs!!! I'm gonna have my old honey back, the one who wasn't sick all the time, and was happy and healthy and able to do all the things everyone else can! :D

Yeah, they had been acting insane about that. DH managed to get them to chill out, although now instead of admitting that they were wrong, they're saying that "the doctor changed his tune". Because everyone knows doctors regularly tell their patients that they're on death's door and then a week later say "oh, no, actually, you're pretty much fine." :P Oh well. I'm picking my battles, and while that drives me crazy that they're doing that, I'm not gonna get into it with them over it.

The only less-than-good part about all of this is that DH will still have to have open heart surgery, likely in the next couple of years, to replace this valve. But this will delay that substantially, by a minimum of 2 years, maybe even longer. So it's still a blessing. By then I should qualify for FMLA at work, and DH will have been working with his BIL as a co-owner of a very lucrative business. This just buys him the extra time we need to get to a better place in our lives before this has to happen. :)

Wow that's great news. I work in the Peds Cardio-Thoracic ICU so I understand the issue of the values . That is sooooooo amazing that the procedure will no longer be a true open heart procedure. So much better for the two of you. Good luck and best wishes!!!

I'm not on much any more, but that's great news!  Hope the procedure goes well.  Is it scheduled yet (did I miss that somewhere)?

Still not scheduled. The specialist's office called on Friday, DH was asleep and they refused to speak to me, and by the time he woke up and called them they were no longer there. So we'll have to wait until Monday to find out when it'll happen. Probably not until sometime in December, because I need some notice to get the time off at work.

Hey all, wanted to let you know that DH scheduled his surgery. It will be on December 14th, with only one overnight stay. Because the procedure is similar to a cardiac cath (where they just go in with a very small incision in the groin), he should be back to 85-100% within a week, so he should be feeling pretty good by Christmas. :)
