Second Weddings

Said yes to the dress

Yesterday, i found the most gorgeous dress a second time bride can find. Its a nontraditional dress, long off the shoulders w a pretty neckline, gathered at the waist w embleshiments. The color is called bahama breeze which is the color of the sea, blue. Im really excited and know it will knock my FI socks off. Now, i need to decide what our kids 3 boys 1 daughter will wear as they are in the wedding party.
Do you think the boys should where a suit or tux like My fi. And then what should his daughter wear? Should i decide or let her decide on style and color? Options please.

Re: Said yes to the dress

  • Pictures of the dress please!!

You don't state the ages of the kids, so It's a bit difficult to give direction.  For the boys it depends on the formality of the wedding they can wear black suits and still look very formal.  If your daughter is over say 10 giving her parameters but allowing her to pick her dress will make it feel more special for her.

My DSD was almost 18 and the only requirement for her dress was that it be Navy blue.  She picked out a knee length dress with spagetti straps and looked very beautiful on our wedding day.
  • Your dress sounds lovely, whether for a bride walking down the aisle the first, second, third or more time (I did not wear a traditional bridal gown for either of my weddings).

If the boys are attendants, tuxedos might be appropriate if they're teenagers or older.  If they are not attendants, suits would be my choice.  His daughter should choose her own dress, IMHO.

    Enjoy!
  • Kilts with Prince Charlie for the males.  That's my vote.  :-)  A man in a kilt is a man and a half--General Sir Walter Campbell.

  • and it's much easier to tell if he's a man and a half if he's wearing the kilt commando!
  • I think what they wear will depend on age, and the formality of the rest of the event. Is it semi-formal, casual, etc?

I'd also ask them, some "kids" are comfortable with dressing up, some will have a better time with more casual clothes. But whatever they want, it should probably be consistent if that stuff is important to you, as they will be in some sort of pictures, I'm sure.

Also, PICTURE of the dress! Blue is my favorite color, can't wait to see it.
  • And what people call "commando" today is incorrect.  The correct term is "regimental."    At every Scottish Highland Games I go to I see men wearing t-shirts that say:  "If it were a skirt, I'd have underwear on."

In reality, most of the athletes (actually participating in the games) wear shorts underneath, because it's the polite thing to do, and tradition, if ladies are present.  But for those who aren't athletes, or not playing the games, yeah.  No undies.  :-)

  • Not sure how to post picture.
  • The picture has to be saved in your computer as a jpg or document. Once you do that, then click on the little picture of a tree below, then it brings up a place to search for the picture, find the picture, click on save (or add, can't remember), then it should come up in your post.
