Second Weddings

Planning Help

I'm not really making my second trip down the aisle...
We're renewing our vows for our 5 year, and I have no idea where to start.
We eloped first go around (seems to be a military tradition) and no one was there to see us wed. We want to include our families and friends in the celebration of our marriage.
We have just under 2 years to plan, and we're doing it 500 miles away from our selected location. As I mentioned the military before, we live no where close to our families.
Since we eloped, I didn't even have to plan a big wedding in the first place, but I got exactly what I wanted.
Where the hell do I start now?
Thanks in advance for your help

I'd say start with a location, we're both military and it was hard to find a location that would be convenient to everybody so we're going to Vegas! Once you settle the location everything will fall in place, trust me.

I agree with Encore.  The first step is to decide where you will hold your event, and the second step should be determining who you want to invite.  This will then lead you to step three - your budget.  How much you have to spend will help you determine what kind of party you want to plan.  When my FI and I started planning we set out how many guest we wanted to invite, set a rough budget of what we wanted to spend for the reception, and worked from there.

Welcome to the board!  Congratulations on your upcoming anniversary.  I'm sure you'll have a great party -- wherever that might be!  Good luck.

If you have your location picked out, best thing to do would be contact that area's local Chamber of Commerce - request specifically event halls, florists, etc.  If you have a specific budget in mind, the Knot's budgeter tool is helpful.  I went on there and removed all the things I KNOW I wont need, then plugged in my budget numbers and edit as you go.  I am also in NC, so I might be able to help you out with local info.

    Congrats, welcome to the board!

Agree with PP and would like to add please search wedding boards and anywhere else you can to find a local area wedding coordintor!  You'll need a contact in the area to be your voice and probably your hands, feet and brain too.  You're giving yourself plenty of time but its not too soon to start the process.  Just like more traditional weddings start with location venue & date and work from there.

Best of luck, you'll have an awesome event!
