Second Weddings

I'm new, too!

Hi ladies, I'm Anna (31) and my new fiance Bryan (36) and I are planning a May 2011 wedding. Its a second marriage for us both, him having had a courthouse wedding and I had what turned out to be my mom's dream wedding. We are having a big country / farm wedding and are so excited! He is from northern Minnesota and I'm from Georgia, where the wedding will take place, so there will be some traveling family from up north.

I have a 5 year old son and a 3 year old daughter, he has a 13 year old son and we will be incorporating them into the ceremony somehow.  Right now I'm torn on whether or not to register and how large of a bridal party to have.  My preliminary list is too long for my own comfort, however I do have lots of close friends and hate to hurt someone's feelings.  It looks like I might end up with just 1 or 2 attendants though.  Is anyone else having a large 2nd wedding? I've already been told that I'm "too old for that" and that I've "already had a big wedding once...". />:(

Congratulations and Welcome!!  This is a great group of ladies!!

My FI and I will have a huge bridal party, 4 gents and 4 ladies not including his daughter. It's a formal affair for the bridal party and we're hoping the guests dress at least semi-formal.

    Welcome and congratulations, Anna!

We have a great group of brides and brides-to-be on this board.  I always hop on this board when I need a pick me up, when life (and wedding planning) needs some smoothing out.  I love these ladies!

When you have a chance, you may want to check out a couple of posts -- "It's Normal" and "What's Your Wedding Date? And more ..." for some shared wisdom (the first one mentioned) and background on some of the regulars (the second).

Our wedding will be small ... I will have only one attendant, a best man -- my son, who will be 18.  My FI will have a best man as well.  We're marrying in an historic inn (on an outdoor terrace) with a sit-down dinner reception and dancing at the same venue (indoor atrium).  It will be a music-infused evening, string quartet for the ceremony and DJ for dinner and dancing.  It's gonna be fun!

    Congratulations again!!

Plan your wedding for the size that makes you happy.  One of the great things about second weddings is we can let go of the "should" invites.  I invited some cousins but not others, no aunts, skipped one side of the family altogether.  When my aunt that I love, but who I KNEW would make a comment about having a full blown wedding event for a second wedding asked about my guest list, I flat out told her she wasn't invited.  However, I  covered that by adding, "you know...its a second wedding and all."  Never heard another word from her, other than loving congrats.

Have as many attendants as you wish-- its your choice. ~Donna

    Welcome and congrats Anna!

This is the "no rules" board. People are having the types of weddings they want with the size, who-what-where-how up to the couple getting married. It's easier to personalize a second wedding because there are no "shoulds".

I agree, go back and read a few posts to get familiar with the ladies here.

    Good luck.
