XP to break up the boredom for you fun ladies....dumpster diving or garbage picking

I guess we can see what "ladies" we are.

I was driving home this week and saw a huge (3 foot across) artificial pine wreath on top of the  trash of someone a couple of blocks away. My daughter was with me, so we did a drive by, and she picked it up. Other than the too big red velvet bow, it was LOVELY. Had large pinecones on it, really nice.

I brought it home, did a "Martha Stewart" re-do on it, added Xmas picks I already had, with some garland that matches my outdoor colors, and put it on my front door. Looks great!

Has anyone else found real bargains when driving on a trash day? Brought them home? Please tell me I'm not the only one who does "Trash to Treasure", please!

......I'm slinking away hoping I'm not the only one with this confession.

I might be tempted, but I have NO MORE space in my house.  It sounds like you got a great deal.  Good for you, "Martha," you go!!

Sue - you are a very "crafty" person - nice score tho!  My xH was an incredible garbage picker.  He would bring home the coolest stuff.  Little antiquey tables, lamps...... stuff like that.  My brother always restored them to their former grandeur and viola! I had something different for the house.

My ex husb used to pick the dumpsters at Bed Bath and Beyond and the high end stores, I cannot tell you what nice and incredible finds he made.

He would bring them to me many times because in his feeble little mind he thought it would make up for that fact that he paid little to no child support.

Dont' worry Sue, I have many of those items in my home. We actually used toasting glasses for our wedding that were found at GOODWILL. Along with a few other items at Goodwill.

You aren't the only one!!!  We brought the glasses with us to the honeymoon, came in handy at the beach at night!!!

Oh Goodwill!  I cannot even begin to tell you about the brand new name brand stuff I have found at the one by my mothers in Florida:  Chico's, Diane Von Furstenberg (sp) to name a couple.

The coffee cups, tea cups, toasting flutes, bell for announcing toasts, etc. at our wedding were from advanced dumpster diving.  A student at a nearby college picked them up from students who were throwing stuff out at the end of the semester.  He offered them free on Craigslist, and we grabbed them.

The birdcage for my wedding was an actual birdcage picked from a dumpster.  My sister did a beautiful job spray painting it, decorated it beautifully and even added a white velvet pillow on the bottom   It was gorgeous, and only she and I knew it was from the dumpster, and to buy those things costs a fortune.  Mine was the right price.
