Texas-Dallas and Ft. Worth

How would you take this?

I was talking to my reception venue about their alcohol policy. It is beer and wine only, no liquor, no margarita machines. We have realized that most of the venues that we looked at had this policy.

Well I asked the lady if we were allowed to have "Signature Drinks" but not a full bar with liquor as an option. I told her some sort of a weak spiked punch, like a Hurricane or something. And she kinda hesitantly told me that that was also considered liquor so it wouldn't be allowed, but then she said, "But I mean if we don't see it..... (giggle giggle wink wink)

Soooo should I plan to do it, or what? lol... All I really wanted to do was get a few of those drink dispensers, make a fun fruity hurricane. Call it Hurricane LastName and call it a day! I would have a TABC certified bartender serving and he would know not to give it to kids and to let people know that it has alcohol. We would probably even label it "Adult Beverage" or something less creepy. I mean,  yeah, I guess we would be breaking policy but didn't she basically just say that they would turn the other cheek?  BTW, we do plan to have wine and beer as well.

I asked this question on a different board and someone suggested making Bellinis of some sort as a signature drink since champagne can  be the only mixer in it. I thought this was a good idea, but my question would be how would she know that it has champagne and not rum? Couldn't I just do a rum punch (weak), let her know its some sort of a sparkling wine mixer so it will not be served to kids? Am I a totally horrible person for thinking about doing this? She literally just made it seem like not a big deal at all.

I think it really depends on who you were talking to and who they are to the venue.  Is it a coordinator who may be saying something to make a bride happy but if the owner saw it they would be unhappy.  Its really a tough call that I think only you can make but my honest opinion is I would do the champagne mixer you still get the fun drink without breaking the rules and its one less thing you may have to worry about on that day.

Im gonna go with dont do it....

If it were me, I would be really worried that winking girls boss would show up and not be to thrilled with what was happening and make you stop serving. How embarrassing.  BUT thats just me!

It sux.. I know... Im sorry!  Good luck with this!

I wouldn't plan to do anything that you didn't have in writing.  If you want to have a mixed drink, make it with champagne just to be safe.

You don't need the added stress of worrying about it.

I agree--a signature drink is not worth the risk.  Although the event coordinator may not have a problem with it, management may not feel the same way.

I agree with Tiffany. Don't do anything you don't have in writing.

That could come back to bite you in the butt somehow, and you always want written proof to back up what your vendor said or didn't say.

I don't really know anything about it, but I would imagine that it could potentially more of an issue than just being told to stop serving. Either you or the establishment could theoretically get into trouble for serving liquor.

That being said, I have a couple of ideas of what you could serve.

You could do sangria, both white and red. Yum!

You could do a champagne bar with various mixers (orange juice for mimosas, peach nectar for bellinis and cranberry juice for poinsettias). You could even give them cute wedding themed names. It could be really cute and fun!

I agree! I'm sure they have that rule cause there liquor license doesn't allow for more then beer and wine. It's a huge fine if you get caught!! No reason to pay even more for your signature drink if you get caught.

I think BanannaP had a great idea!

Thanks, y'all! I will look at my options that are allowed :) Or maybe see if I can get something in writing or something.

I agree-it's not worth it. It would be nice and I know it IS your wedding..but if owners don't approve, nothing your can do about it.

ALways better to be safe than sorry.
